Hi all :)

As the subject of this post says, I'd like to extract an AC3 5.1 from a VOB files. Edit it (create a fade-out at the end). Then "Re-create" (remux?) the VOB file with the edited AC3 track.

If this is possible, what softwares (preferably cheap or freeware :D) would I need to achieve this?
Could an expert guide me through the process? :)

Thanks in advance,
ddlooping

Sorry, i am no expert and haven't tried it, but do recommend you get your hands on Pinnacle Studio 8 as im aware it has a lot of editing functions available. Try the trial version first and see if you like it before buying....

Sorry i cant really help you. Out of curiosity, wwhy do you wish to do this?

Hi Oriphus. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

Here is the "why":
I use DVD Shrink fairly regularly, especially when cropping the end-credits of a movie-only backup enables me to use little or no compression (by the way, have you checked DVD Shrink v2.2? It's well worth a try)
The only problem with cropping the credits is that the music tends to finish fairly abruptly , to say the least.
So I thought it might be worth investigating into the possibility to fade it out.
And I would surely learn something useful in the process. ;)

I usually just let the audio 'Chop' :-) but perhaps you can use 'ac3 delay corrector' to adjust any delays in the audio stream, then use SonicFoundry's 5.1 surround pack to add the fades:

Thanks for the suggestion, jnihil. :)

SonicFoundry's 5.1 surround pack, a bargain at $279, lol. :D
But first, I would have to find out how to extract the AC3 from a vob file. ;)

Or for a cheaper alternative...

You can lower the volume of your tv slowly just as the credits go - to mimic that of a fade out... lol... j/k

I too have the same issue. But all this remuxing talk or that of the $280 price tag is giving me a bit of an information overload.

I hope you get the answer to your question though!

"You can lower the volume of your tv slowly just as the credits go."

I thought about training my cat to do it. :)
Problem is, I don't have a cat. :(
Would it be worth getting one you think? :D

So far I've only found out how to extract the AC3 from a vob file. Very easy to do with VobEdit.
No info about how to edit AC3 though. :/

I don't know if I'm allowed to post the link to this...

http://www.fukrulez.com//modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=18

.. but the program there called AC3-Fix should be able to edit your AC3s

ddlooping: I have noticed that problem with the music finishing abruptly. I've downloaded the new version of DVD Shrink and im gonna give it ago as soon as the 200 DVD's i ordered arrive.
Don't bother getting a cat, thats the whole reason you have kids. "Honey, wil you pass daddy the remote and get him a wee drink"

Definitely - then you dont have to clean up after the cat! However, you will need a lady 'friend' to look after the kid
