Noob here - freely admitted. Here's the deal:
1) tried dvd decryptor>Nero Burning ROM of a favorite dvd of mine that's getting all scratched up - just as a backup. The decrypt>recode>burn process was fine.
Result: splendid copy as good as original. Watched it on the ol' DVD player for the 36th time.
now here's the problem:
2) I've downloaded some non-copyright protected / fully "sharable" concert footage. The source files look the same general content as at #1 above (bup, ifo, VOB - similar sequence, etc.) I can even watch the concert on my computer - so I know there's no corruption, etc.
I've gone through recode, Nero vision, express, and burning rom to try to get these stinkin' files onto a "watchable" dvd. I've meticulously followed all tutorials found within other threads to no avail.
The burning process always works out fine - no errors, nada. I've checked/double checked all preferences/tabs/settings to be just like the examples everyone else has, trying to make sure I'm not missing something painfully obvious (like the "play this disc on any ol' player" button). Throughout this process I did not change media types or drives (but did update firmware and try again).
How do I get a disc that will be watchable in my dvd player(s) (Denon 910 and Panasonic dvdr21).
What's KILLING me is that I did it once and it worked just fine when making a copy from other media after converting to the same exact file format that I downloaded.
Please help me before I run out of room on my coffee table for my ever increasing new coaster set!

Ok let's see if we can sort this out for you (sounds like you don't need any more coasters for the drinks:)
Does this new disc play back in the PC?
Sounds like the files you dl are in a video_ts folder?
How large is it?
You can also post your last Nero log. You can find them here:
If using Nero 6: program files>ahead>nero>nerohistory
If using Nero 7: program files>nero>nero 7>core>nerohistory
Just be sure to edit out the serial # - they begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
Post the last one. The logs are separated by something like this:

Thanks for the reply.
The files in the TS folder are a combined 1.87GB (no recode needed, right?) I'd actually like to put more than one on there, but that's a battle for another day.
The new disc "sometimes" plays back in the PC - I've got 3 yes and 6 no. I honestly couldnt' tell you the difference as I typically don't label my coasters.

The PAL to NTSC - when running them thru Vision you would have received a pop up saying something like 'mostly in PAL format do you wish to keep this format' (or vice versa). If you didn't get this than they are probably in the format for the area you are in.
Your DVD Players would also give you a error something like wrong region or playback prohibited if they don't accept both PAL & NTSC format. So this may not be an issue.
You pc will more than likely play both formats.

Your firmware is quite a bit behind. The latest is 1.0C.
This should help you drive use the correct write strategy for these discs. From your log the drive doesn't fully recognize the discs.

Probably won't help with the playback problem. But best to have all drive's in DMA mode.

Ok discs. Better to use would be Verbatim or made in japan only Fuji, Sony or Maxell. For your drive try and get discs rated no higher than 8x - the last firmware update on this drive was 9/04. Higher rated discs may give it a problem.
