I have a version 7 playstation with a Magic 3.1u chip inside. I ran the Codebreaker version 8 with no problems and it loaded everytime. The problem is that after running the Codebreaker, some of my backups won't load. Normally, the backup would load fine. Now, even though I don't start with the codebreaker or have any memory cards/USB flash drives installed, the game still won't load up. One thing I notice is that before I used the code breaker a line would flash at the top of the screen after the Playstation 2 logo. Now, an additional line flashes in the middle of the screen and the disc just spins with a black screen. The controller can turn on but no game. This only happens with a few games that used to work fine before. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? Anything similar happen to someone else? Does the Codebreaker install something on the PS2 and is there a way to get rid of it?

I bet it has to due to the media you burned your games on. What brand did you use? Alot of backups will work fine at first but after a couple of months the dye detoriates (msp) and you're left with a coaster. I suggest either TY, Verbatim or Sony DVD's

This was a new backup with the same DVD Pro media as before:
DVD-R-DVDR-blank-media-discs-disc-bulk.html" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.meritline.com/dvdpro-4x-DVD-R-DVDR-blank-media-discs-d...

These burn well and work consistently. I was just playing the game a few days ago and it was working fine. I was able to find out that the codebreaker writes on the memory card. If it runs out of space does it write to the modchip as well? I have unplugged the memory card so it shouldn't be interfering.

I don't know if a software (codebreaker) can detect the modchip and write to it. Sounds kinda iffy though. I've had backups I've played one day and the next they didn't work. Thats why I reccommend Sony. They work for years.

Thanks for your help. I tried your suggestion and you were right. I've been using DVD pro for a while and it's the first time one has failed on me later. The reason why I thought it was the code breaker was because the originals would still work and some of the backups didn't. Plus I did a recent backup but I forgot that I had upgraded my DVD burner. I put back the old burner and redid it and it worked. I'm guessing that laser on my PS2 is also wearing out. I may try the sony media and see how that goes.
