i know the 9600 pro is better than the 9600se but how much better is it i have the option of getting this card off of a friend for a low price is it worth it?

What is your price? The 9600Pro is indeed better. It is actually much better. I'm thinking 50% in most cases as the 9600se has half of the pipelines. This give a big performance hit. If the 9600Pro is less than $70 get it.
