Hi All,
I have recently come to a few conclusions and was wondering for what everyone would think.
There will be a few points outlined in this post which will hopefully explain to you my scenarios.
1. My speed sometimes starts off really fast, gets to my max speed, ~250kb/s and then goes back down to 0kb/s.. really fast. (as pictured)
2. My internet speed has a max of 8/1.5MB and a minimum of 1.5MB/256kb. I'm relatively close to the exchange - around 3km's away, and I used to scrape the minimum - 1.6MB/260kb. Today my line jumped to 2.262/1MB. Why is it that I have slow speeds and not max ~1MB/sec. My friend, who is also with the same ISP as me, lives in a different exchange but is the same distance, and he gets ~400kb/s on a torrent.
3. Customer support (although crappy) told me to upgrade my firmware from my router and it would increase my speeds since I was barely scraping the minimum (1.6MB/260kb) but when my exchange was enabled, they boosted our line to the 8MB/1.5MB plan and I reached ~325. What I was wondering, is would my firmware actually DECREASE my speeds?
I calculated all these results on uTorrent on public and private trackers, and yes, my ports are open and forwarded. I am using a Dynalink RTA100+ router. I am with the ISP "Amcom" and so is my friend.
you know it is not just your dl speed that is the desiding factor in what dl speed you get for individual torrents.
it relies on the upload speeds of others to provide you with a good dl speed.
You know what i mean?
so try torrents with loads of seeds, they are the uploaders with 100% of the file, if they have a good up speed you will have a godd dl speed.
I explain better here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/1/373470#2232804
The torrent itself (sorry I didn't mention this before) had 398 seeders and 8 leechers (including me).
I think it's just my router or something.
My ISP called me up on saturday regarding my slow speeds since I sent them an email. When I told them that I had forwarded and opened my ports they said that I had to take it off and that it rapidly slowed down my speeds. I think it's just to cut down on bittorrent downloaders :S But yes, they will fix it soon, but I don't know about these torrents.
Thanks for all your help, and good luck with www.plucky.org!
