Nero & DVD+/- PLEASE HELP

Ok, so here's my problem. I downloaded a movie on to my computer. I would like to burn this movie on to a blank DVD. Whether it's the + or the -, I don't really care. I just want it on the blank DVD. Now, I've burned music I've downloaded on to many blank CD's and that is always very easy, but I've come to find out that DVD's are a whole different world. I just can't figure it out. Someone told me to download Nero and that it would walk me through it. So, I did, but it hasn't seemed to help me one bit. I've tried DVD-R's and DVD+R's, but for some reason every time I put the blank disc in my computer is buzzes for a little bit like it's reading it or something and then it tells me I need to put in a blank disc even though I just did. Then as if Nero couldn't get even more confusing I click on it to burn and it tells me that it's burning even though I don't even have a disc in there. I'm at the end of my rope and it's driving me crazy. If there is anyone out there that can let me know what to do I'd be very grateful. Thank you!
P.S.
Sorry about the post that turned into a book. : ) I'm just frustrated.

Yes you really need to tell us what format the movie file is that you downloaded. There are several different types that they come in. Several files need to be converted to DVD files so that you can burn onto a disc. Only video ts and image/cue files can be burned right away. Nero will convert AVI files to video ts files, then you can burn.

Ah, yes, most of the files are AVI, but I do have one that is mpg. Thanks.

Yes, I did, and it seems helpful, but there's a part of it where I click DVD and I did and then where it's supposed to say Make a DVD it only says make a CD. It doesn't give me the "Make A DVD" option. Some of the example pics have options that I don't. I only have the trial version of Nero. Is that why?

I was under the impression that all these cue/bin files had to be burned on a cd-r...I would prefer a DVD-R if poosible.

You shouldn't hijack other people's threads. VCD cue/bin files can only be burned on a cd.

Yes, I have the Demo/Trial version of Nero. Is that why I don't have the "Make A DVD" option like the example picture?

Ok, I downloaded that, but it's asking me for a serial #. How do I get that? I put in the serial # from my demo/trial version, but it still won't let me click the instal button. What else do I have to do?

My movie is a dvdrip file. I have Nero, AVI2DVD,etc,etc. How can I burn to cd or dvd? Please lest steps this is my first attempt.
