Hey everyone. Im a bit upset because you'd think in all of the internet I could find out if ripping commercial Dual layer DVD discs and burning them to DVD-R DL media is possible.
I have a brand new LG DVD drive that burns DL media yet I have yet to do it sucessfully. I rip the DVD and try to burn with Nero, DVD Decrypter, CLICK n BURN, ULEAD, DVDLAB, COOLCDBURNER, DVDSANTA
NOTHING WORKS!!!!!
Why do they sell these DVD's if they wont play in DVD players and IF THEY DO WORK can someone explain how to FOR ONCE!! PLEASE!!
DVD Decrypter in mode ISO read and write is a nice single program only when you have a 1:1 copy,no compression.
Rip: Dvd decrypter/Mode/ISO/read. Remember where those files go.
10 mins or so to rip onto your harddrive.
Burn: After ripping, you'll hear a little alarm. Click:
Mode/ISO/write/ set burn speed/click the folder icon on source/locate that movie/open the mds files-not the iso/select backup target for your DVD-RW drive/and burn away.
Dvd+r dl should be more compatable on stand alone players,if using a booktyping capable burner.

LG drives have that booktyping capability. This booktyping fools stand alone players into thinking they are actual dvd-rom format-which is the most universal of all the dvd formats.
DVD Decrypter and IMGburn have a setting to booktype the plus format- r/rw/and r-DL to dvd-rom. When in ISO write mode, click on lower/right corner folder. Look for the LG tab,and set your +R DL media to dvd-rom/ok. You may have to switch it back if going to +r single layer. Just make sure it says dvd-rom for the size of plus format media you use.
The main thing: You burner drive should play it's own backups, and they should look near perfect. After that comes stand alone player compatability.
With dl media, there's a huge difference in media quality. Verbatim DL media is the best out there. Other brands,I suggess avoiding.
LG drives are booktyping capable drives. Use the plus format, and booktype them to get the highest compatable backups.
Burn engines can also factor in. Nero6 has trouble with the layer break. DVD Decrypter and IMGburn are the only burn engines I use on my DL backups.
