Ok, I am not new to dvd burning when it comes to home movies...but when it comes to dvd backups, i have tired every program on the market and am still failing...if there is anyone who lives in manitoba and would mind helping me even if they want cash for it, i NEED HELP...or someone that can help me over msn? golden_35@hotmail.com...I want a menu for a dvd backup so it will play in my standalone. I rip the entire disc with dvd decrypter then use dvd2one take out just the main movie and compress it to 4.7 gigs...then i use TMPGEnc DVD Author to encode the ac3 file so that it will work in ulead dvd movie factory. After all that, the movie is now bigger than 4.7 gigs and even if the movie was smaller than 4.7 gigs, the menu that ulead creates is a few megs and is STILL too big to fit on a stupid freaking dvd!!!!!! GRRRRR

You shouldn't need a menu for standalone players. Movies without menus just jump directly to the feature film and plays.
I Use DVD Shrink to rip/compress (1 step!)
then Nero to burn. Entire process takes 1-1.5 hours depending on how much compression is needed. Drawbacks are no menus, no special features (unless original disc is under 4.7 gig). hope this helps

Don't bother with the TMPGEnc and Ulead step. Once DVD2One is finished just burn the files with Nero.

But the problem is that most older standalone players (including ps2) need menus to read the disc. Thats why i was asking

If you use DVD Shrink 2.2 in FULL-DISK mode then you can keep original menu & compress extras to shit [like still pics] so overall compression isn't taken out so much on main movie files. You'll probably only want one audio track etc..

P.S. Guide to Shrink 2 http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/mpg/dvdshrink2-main.htm
