About the speed
Your download speed in BitTorrent, or any other P2P (Peer-2-Peer) application for that matter, relies on the upload speed of others - so do not assume that because you get xxKB/s when downloading from web sites that you will always get xxKB/s with BitComet. Slow download speeds are almost always because the upload bandwidth required to provide you with fast downloads just isn't there... so there is no way to magically speed it up, other than going out and buying everyone who you're downloading from (seeds/peers) a faster internet connection.

Sorry
I can't help with the error, I don't know what that is, but another user will come along eventualy, can you describe what else the error says, it might help?

BitComet
Private Torrents sites have faster speeds usualy, but if you use BitComet regularly with them you could get banned, as it is an unfair leecher's client, thats what I heard.
Try something like uTorrent, not promising greater speeds as that is not with client issues, I am just saying for the sake of efficency.

Advice
If you are going to change cllients, do NOT get BitLord.

Click the second link in my sig. I've got a fairly lengthy post up in the p2p tutorials section that covers pretty much everything you can do to speed up your torrenting. I just realized that I've never and the lvllord patch for sp2 people, but...well, it's your own silly fault for using sp2 imo. ;-)

But anyway, check it out, see if it helps.
