I have tried several different internal burners (including Sony and Memorex). And after 50-75 DVD burns the accuracy of the burner goes bad and my discs freeze during play. I'm using Memorex blanks. Is this normal? Is there such a thing as a bullet proof burner. Suggestions?
I would switch media, it is cheaper and Memorex are some of the worst you can buy. Also don't burn at more than half the rated speed of your blank and don't apply adhesive labels to your discs, keep your HDD defragged and keep your firmware updated. There are many, many factors that can create the effects that you mention, the burner is usually not at fault.
i've teleported the thread to the DVDR media forum, my recommendations are 'Verbatim Taiyo Yuden' (if you were able to get them, you can't get these in the USA), and/or Taiyo Yuden. more info is in this very forum

What drive/s show the freezing issues?
Stand alone player/s on the TV?
Or both your DVD-RW drives, when you watch them on your pc?
Majority of those issues are with stand alone players!!!! 2 different burners showing the exact same issue-definitely looks like stand alone player is at fault,if that's the only drive that shows the freezing.
If that's where your issues occur, take note of the area of freezing-like the time. Test out in other stand alones, and test out on the drive that burned them.It may need a laser lens cleaning,or total replacement with another $20 el cheapo player.
Make sure your DVD-RW drive can play it's own backups. The playback quality should look near original. Knowing the drive that is showing the issues will help narrow it down.
After we know which drive/s the freezing occurs then you have this list to troubleshoot from:
Media quality
Burn speed-too fast or even too slow
Low quality burner
Burning too close to outer edge of discs.
Fragmented HD
Spyware/malware
Compression-too high
Multi-tasking
Heat build-up
Sticker/paper labeling
Dirty laser lens
Switch to another burn engine
Thanks LOCOENG. It's the stand alone players that bring the problem to light. The burners play just fine. Thanks for the check list. I will work my way down it knowing now that the probability of the burner being the issue is next to zero.
