I'm sure you're sick of this question, but bear with me. My problem is apparently unique.

So, to restate my situation:
I'm on Bellsouth 3.0/384, Westell 6100. Windows XP.
Azureus NAT Error - No firewall - No Router - XP firewall Disabled

I believe that covers pretty much every fix I've read in the past three hours. Supposedly my Westell 6100 modem also serves as a router, but what I found and scoured through on my gateway address doesn't have anything that looks capable of managing ports.

Edit: Forgot to mention. I've also changed my port to 54321.
I will be checking this topic quite often. If you ask for whatever info you need to know, I'll answer pretty damn fast.

here is a sight that has walk throughs for port forwarding that are router specific. http://www.portforward.com/english/applications/port_forwarding/A... if you don't forward the port it doesn't matter what you do it won't work. good luck

I am actually having what I believe is the same exact problem...I have used portforward, and that does not work...I have tried disabling my firewall, restarting my client, computer etc...NOTHING Works! At this point i would pay a $600 to fix it...

I have easily spent over 6 hours to try and fix this problem, and I am waiting desperately for a solution to hit me in the face.

To all those still harping on port forewarding, I think I may be having a similar issue unrelated to the port thing. I have no router, no firewall, and when I called my ISP they said I was not behind any firewall with them, however they did say that I had a "private IP address" on their network that might be causing the problem. What I am wondering is if there is a way through proxys (or something) to bypass the port steps if it is a router that can't be accessed. I was also under the impression that NAT was for firewalls, however according to my ISP I am not behind one.

sorry to hi-jack this thread guys but i didn't want to make a seperate topic on my problem as i believe i am having the same, if not - similar problem as the rest of you.

I bet you guys get this an awful lot but i normally have little problems with Azureus and if anything goes wrong i generally know how to fix it.

Anyway - got a new computer the other day and loaded Azureus onto it. Done my usual Port forward (Belkin Router) and allowed through my firewall (sygate) but for some reason i keep getting NAT error on my new machine. Smilies always stay at yellow and get very little (if any) from public sites like torrentspy, mininova etc but when downloading from one of my private sites i get virtually the full download speed which is great but hardly any upload which is what i need.

Its definately not a Router issue i don't think as i tested it out on my old comp using the same Port number and smilies are green and NAT test comes back OK - whereas on my new computer the NAT test always comes back with NAT error.

Tried it with my firewall completely turned off as well and still no joy.

So what could it be on my new computer that isn't affecting my old with all the same settings on the Router / Azureus / firewall on my new computer.

I'm really at my wits end with this problem guys and would be ever grateful should someone help me get this sorted.

Anymore info needed on my problem - just ask

Double check to make sure windows firewall isn't also running, it has the nasty tendancy to start itself up when you least want it.

thanks for the reply mate but Windows firewall isn't on - in fact, can't even start it

when i try to open it i get a box saying the windows firewall / ICS service isn't running do you want to run it now? and even if i click ok it just pops up saying it could not start (blessing in disguise maybe?)

any other ideas?

Wow $600 to fix it? So how fast will you paypal me that money after I fix it for you?

Lol.

I'm not gonna answer everyone's question in this thread, but here are some simple tests:
1. Look at the back of your modem. If there is more than 1 place to plug in a network cable, it's got a router or a switch in it. (and you'll need to port forward.)
2. If it doesn't, but it has an antenna, it's got a router in it. (and you'll need to portforward.)
3. Call your service provider. Tell them you need to enable VNC for work, and you can't get it to work, your IT guy said the port was firewalled.

There are a bunch of possible solutions, but the most likely is that your ISP sucks and they have you locked down hardcore, but being unable to start the firewall could be indicitive of other problems. (virii).

Ok im having a similar problem and still trying to figure out the cause.

I had Azureus set up on windows 2k with a router - no firewall, using port fowarding.

So ive got a new comp with windowsXP, I set up the ip address and ports for this setup. No dice getting Nat errors still. So I check windows firewall yes disabled. Also have norton internet security. I try setting up rules to allow usage of those ports and give access to Azureus and javaw.exe .. still no dice.

I make sure im not running uPnP .. router doesnt support it. disabled my uPnP services, disabled the uPnP plugin in Azureus.. still getting NAT errors.

So I disable norton internet security .. thinking it might still be blocking ports for some reason or I made a mistake in configuring it.(which I double checked and couldnt find anything wrong) Still getting NAT errors. I think ok fine so I uninstall Norton thinking it might be passively blocking my ports somehow .. reset .. still getting NAT errors ...

ok must have been something else been going through my active processes and windows services looking for anything that could be causing the problem I disabled all non essential services .. still getting problems.

Double checked my router and ipconfig -- all matches up my port fowarding is correct. How do I know, same port fowarding style I used for my win2k box is still working ... I am using different IP addresses and different Ports for the win2k box and the windowsXP client.

And its still not working .. seriously driving me crazy. even tho ive got the port fowarding setup - when I do an online port probe the report that the port is blocked.

So my question is does windows xp .. no firewalls of any kind .. have any inherent way of screwing with NAT's or port stealthing/blocking?
this is with all the latetest security updates and is pretty much a fresh install.

I figured out the cause of all these problems and frusturation. I have been doing a lot of research on the issue and it seems isps are the cause of this disruption, ie: connection throttling. Here is a list of bad isps: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Bad_ISPs

IF you are in fact being affected by your isp, this may help you get around that: http://www.azureuswiki.com/index.php/Avoid_traffic_shaping

I hope all of you experiencing this are as relieved as I was that I finally found the cause of the problem. Obviously, the cause blatantly sucks...Good Luck!

Hi

I have a sililar problem that is really starting to bug me.

I have 2 PC's on the network

If I configure port forwarding for Comp 2 on port 12345 it will not work but if I configure port forwarding for Comp 1 on port 12345 the port will open on both comp 1 and comp 2??? but as soon as I switch off comp 1 the port is closed on comp 2..

If i completely disable the router firewall, all ports on Comp 2 are closed unless comp 1 is switched on..

OK so I can find a way round but I am selling comp 1 and I will no longer have it soon.

Windows firewall service is disabled and I have not added any entries to the route table on comp 2. I have done a factory reset on the router umteen times (netgear's only answer) and Ive tried adding comp 2 as the DMZ server, Static IP's, disable remote management etc etc etc..

Please help Im really baffaled, and ive been getting 1kb/s if any download rates on bit torrent for a few months now. Http (80) is fine

Cheers
Tony

Ok, for the original westell 6100 guy.

1. Type launchmodem into your browser window.

2. Click on home network.

3. On the right side click on nat/gaming.

4. Click on define custom service.

5. Port Forwarding is on, click next.

6. Service name is whatever you want, global portrange is 6881-6883. Leave base host alone and make sure tcp is checked. Next.

7. Confirm it all and go to the Home networking page again after all is saved. Pick the new connection from the list on top and voila, nat error gone.
