I'm new to this whole chat room thing so bare with me. I am desperate for help, thats why I'm doing this. As well I have read about 20 threads trying to find what I need but no luck. Here's the problem:

I have a downloaded ps2 game and a chip in my ps2 to read it. I understand about WinRAR and have extracted the first file .001 to get another WinRAR file ending .ISO. Burnt this to disc, it didn't work. Extracted the .ISO file again to get a whole lot of other files, burnt those, didn't work. What the hell am I doing wrong?

You extract the first WinRAR oo1 or 000 then you get the iso. File you only burn that if extract the iso then you went to far. Now depending on you meida your using and at what speed you burn them at it'll work. Recommend media ty,verbatim, tdk for more info on what media to use look at the thread call bestmedia (noods look here) its better if you use 8x and burn at 4x, use software like dvd decryptor, image burn, Nero or Alcohol 120%, now dvd decryptor and image burn are free, you can also get the software link in the thread call trouble finding programs and that will have all the links. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the answer guys!! I am using DVD+R Traxdata DVD's, it says 8x on the cover but I am not sure what speed I am burning at, will check and let you know.

By the way, I tried to find those programs you recommend like, DVD Decrypter and Alcohol 120 but they are no longer available so I am using "Amazing cd and dvd burner", a regular dvd burner I downloaded from internet.

From what I have read, you should be burning an ISO image for the game to work. I tried that once but it didn't work so I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong.

On a similar note, when using Alcohol 120 (which I finally found, a trial version) should I use "Image burning wizard" or "CD/DVD Manager"?

Don't think that you can get a bin file to work they have to be in iso.

@crackers just burn the iso don't extract it, it'll be fine.

Hi everyone.

I've got my ps2 for a quite long time and I'm used to "backuping" games for it but recently I've got a problem.

I've downloaded a game. It was inside an archive so I've extracted it. Everyone on forum of that torrent was saying to use Alcohol 120% because inside archive was ONLY mdf (large) file and no mds (small) file and I simply don't know how to burn it. Maybe one of you be so kind to share some knowledge with me.

I've tried to burn this file with alcohol in this way:
1. add image file (INS)
2. in file name field I've entered "*" so I could "see" all files
3. I've choose mdf file
4. alcohol revognised it as IMG file - the ico was img
5. I right clicked on it and choose burning wizard
6. I set the lowest speed (6x) and placed Verbatim DVD-R disk in my dvdburner
7. The recording was finnished succesfully but.
8. PS2 recognise ps2 disk but it can't start the game. Even the ps2 logo is not showing up. After about 30 sec. ps2 turning speed down and entering browser screen.

I've got Alcohol 120% trial edition 1.9.5.3105 version.

How I'm suppose to record this game having only mdf file?

PLEASE HELP.

T0meck, there's no need to double-post the same question in 2 separate topics, familiarise yourself with the forum rules about this for your own good.

Might help if you read the sticky topics on burning as well...

Thanks for quick reply but that topic you directed me to wasn't about burning only mdf file because when alcohol is making an image using mds/mdf format it automaticaly creates mds file and when that file exists there's no problem but I don't have that luxuary. So if anyone of you know how to slove my problem please write the solution.

Sorry about posting my problem 2 times.

It doesn't take Einstein to work it out though does it?

Use Alcohol in the same way, but open the mdf file instead of the mds.
The mds file is only a file like a cue file with bin/cue, which tells alcohol which file to burn.

First off, change your media. Traxdata DVD+R are really crap!
Use good quality 8x DVD-R, such as Verbatim, TDK, RITEK G05, Taiyo Yuden etc.. (check best media sticky for others)
Burn at 1/2 the disc's max speed (ie 4x for 8x media) using DVDecrypter.

I find it easiest to burn with Nero. Just burn at half the discs speed and I make sure Disc at Once is Checked

Heres what I use

Dell Inspiron 1300 Notebook
Intel Celeron M 1.5Ghz
512 MB RAM
40 gig HD

Sucessful Backups:NASCAR 06, The Suffering, NBA Live 06, Medal of Honor: European Assault, Atv Offroad Fury 3, MX Unleashed, Evergrace, Jedi Starfighter, Star Wars Battlefront, SNES Station with about 50 games

Ok, thanks, I'll try.

The other problem, I downloaded another game, for ps2, after I extract the file, I get a BIN file, is there any chance this will work, or should I just delete it and download again.

This is the greatest forum ever. I burnt at half the discs speed and it is working.

Now, come on, what about this BIN file I got with the other game, after I extracted it. A definitive answer please, if I burn this BIN file to a dvd will it work in PS2.

Ok. I just did what you told me to do. I've recorded mdf file just like iso and it worked. I was recording it on linux. Anyhow it's working just fine. Big thanks to ace1uk for your help. I was shocked when ps2 logo showed up. The disk I've recorded earlier must've been the reason it couldn't start the game. It was Verbatim but maybe just had some defects and all. Anyway thanks again. If you will ever have a problem with burning, protecting, unprotecting, copying protected disks I might help.

Shall I burn the IMG file only and just burn it as an image file??
I have Nero express. And what CD's should I use? DVD- I've heard is the best.
I'm scared to damage my laser, cause it's inreplaceable.

What do you use to boot it? You need either a modchip or swap magic to boot backups.
