Hi all,
I have read most of the guides here before i decided to post. Firstly, i am using Bitcomet 0.60, using Win Xp Pro SP2, Dlink DSL-G604T Router, Windows firewall, Grifsoft AVG Free Edition firewall 7.1.405
I did portfowarding as suggested on the guides based on my router and torrent client. I did a speedtest and my upload speed is about 15kiloBytes and Port number is #16881 and opened in my Windows firewall.
Currently, i am not a member of any private tracker websites. I use public torrents' websites such as isohunt, mininova.org, etc. Anyway, can anyone tell me what is so good about private trackers? I never did understood that ...
And can anyone let me know how i improve my download speed? For example, i am downloading a torrent now and my download is always about 5KB and people are uploading 20KB from me.
I hope to be enlightened by anyone who can help me, thanks.

try updating your client
also use the tcpip.sys patch
http://www.lvllord.de/download.php?url=en/EvID4226Patch223d-en.zip
make them what u like (i nade them 120) then edit the no of half open connections to whatever u put in the patch
then cap your uploads for a test try limiting the uploads to 4
JUST TO TEST ...DON'T TEST FOR TOO LONG and tell us about your speed
then cap them to 12

So after i execute the patch and my limit is 50 btw, my computer will restart. After that what do you want me to do? What do you mean by "CAP"?
So i enter the upload speed of 4KB for my BitComet client? Sorry, i am quite new to these things. I really will appreciate it if you could explain to me step by step. Thanks

ok
open the prefrences in the client
2.Advanced > Connection
3.Set the Max Half-open..... to 50
4.set your max upload speed to 4 and download to Unlimited
5.Start your downloads and tells us what u get
END
i also suggest u make the limit 100 and set max half open to 80
i have a 256kbit DSl which means max of 32dl and i get 29kb/s
which means i almost maxed it
BTW private trackers are good because they have dedicated uploaders so they upload to u at good speeds but at other torrents its full of leechers they download and don't upload as much so if the whole torrent is full of leechers no one will get good speeds
so be sure to seed and remove that 4kb/s limit to 13
and CAP means to limit it

Yup, i have done it and my download was about 4KB when i set my upload to 4KB.
I will try your configurations and see if it works better. I seem to have many peers and few seeds. I guess that is also why my download is so slow right?

I am currently using 1500kbps download and i think upload is about 32kilobits. I was reading through some of the threads and found some links to test my upload speed.
So how much do you think my download speed should be? A estimation? Thanks

It is impossible to say. Every torrent differs because of several factors like how many seeders there are compared to lechers. If you have 2 seeders and 20 people leeching, expect slow results, but if you have 20 lechers for 20 seeders things will be much faster. Depends on how many seeders/lechers your conectable to in the swarm. Depends on file size. And more so it is impossible to say.

Yeah i guess you're right. But sometimes it is hard to tell if my computer speed is slow due to some configurations or is it just plainly not enough seeds, etc.
Do you know of anyway i can test to find out if indeed my download speed is ok? Maybe i could try finding some seeds have lots of seeds and less leechers and peers? Any suggestions?

Hello, I read as many threads as I could and a few of the guides, but couldn't find anything to help.
I download files, sometimes as big as 3 gigs, and I use uTorrent for this. The problem is that for these big files, it takes days to download. I just changed my up-speed to max 4 and my down-speed to unlimited, will see if this speeds things up. Is there any advise that someone can give to speed up this download. Or maybe another program that is better than uTorrent. I kindly request "laymans terms" if you have advise for me.

You should add s step in your guide that after running a speed test at http://www.dslreports.com/stest . Make sure your not uploading or downloading while you run the test. You can enter the results here http://ut-settings.go.pl/ which will give you the proper settings.
The last step will tell you to change the maximum number of half open connections.
For this to be fully efficient you may need to apply a system patch.
Quote: How can I find out, if I'm affected?
Just have a look at Start/Maintenance/Control Panel/Administration Management/Eventview/System if there are entries with the event id 4226. If yes, minimum one time the limit has been reached
The patch can be found here:
http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads&PHPSESSID=9f999df37b...
Run the program, and when promopted push C. Type the number of maximum half open connections which was the last number listed in the settings guide.

the problem is mostly with the torrents
also looks like i'll build a big wave of leechers by telling them to set the speed by 4
so now i'll correct myself make the max upload speed to 10
and the download to unlimited
2.use a good torrent
3.stop downloading anything while testing u bit torrent client's achievments
BTW i got to junior member level mostly by helping Slow torrent threads
