Is there a way to burn several movies to a single 4.7GB DVD+/- blank?

Yes, you can use the free DVD Shrink, rip each individually and then add the movies in reauthor, but you will loose your menu and will only get the movies. See guide for that here

Or if you have Nero Vision Express you can use that program and rip your movies, movie only and then add and create a menu for them.
