I am using NeroVision on a Compaq Notebook with a 1.46 ghz celeron processer and 512 megs of RAM. Nerovision on this computer is very slow when converting AVI files to DVD files on my harddrive and uses allmost 100% of the CPU when performing the functions BEFORE encoding (ie. chapter generation, chapter thumbnail generation, menu generation). In addition, Nerovision is not generating thumbnails for each chapter- only for 2 out of every 10 chapters. The actual encoding process takes about the same amount of time as on my other computers. Does anyone know why these preliminary processes should be so much slower on this notebook than on my desktops. (It is exactly the same version of Nero- 7.0.1.4).
512 MB is the minimum needed for burning/converting AVIs/DVDs. If you added 512MB more of memory to the laptop, you would probably notice a reduction in time, but CPU usage will probably be about the same as you are using the CPU to do the converting. Also close down any not needed Apps and programs including any virus checkers and firewalls, getting off the net, and not multitasking, and see if that makes a difference.
I use Nero 7.0.8.2 and it seems to be stable.

Maybe your desktop has more memory, faster cpu, bigger/faster HD, etc. Desktops tend to have less problems with excess heat than laptops as everything is crammed together in a laptop. You could also post a Nero log and we could see if there are any conflicts going on with the laptop setup. You might have INCD install or Roxio, and these programs conflict with Nero.
Please post a log from this location, not the vision log location.

These things record all burns, and we only need the last one. The burns are seperated by something like this:

that was from a Nero 6 log, but 7 looks much like that. Underneath the divider is the operating system, and right below that is the begining of the serial number. When posting a log, just include the last burn log, and be sure to edit out your serial numbers by typing xxxx over them, or deleting them before posting to the forum.
