Hello to all.

I have recently obtained and implemented swap magic 3.8 on my ps2. I was successful in copying some of the games my friend lent me in " Champions 2 " and " Resident Evil 4 " using Alcohol 120% copy wizard. Both work fine.

However, I tried to copy MGS 3 using this conventional means, however it did not work. I fear it may have been because I was chatting at the time but I have doubts.

The game boots up fine until after the konami intros end. Then it displays a disc at the top left corner of the screen flashing with a ? makr in it's place.

I tried creating an iso on my hard drive then rebuilding it and removing the dummy.dat file from it, but the disc burnt with this information, never made it to the konami intros.

I'd really not like to waste another disc in veign.

Please help me.

Its smaller than yours is!

If you're using SM to boot MGS3, then you'll most likely need to use CDLoader as an additional swap to get it to boot....

Get it there.

What bothers me, is that his original copy works fine when I put it in. This disc has the dummy.dat file, so it boogles my mind what the real problem with my original copy of his is.

Another puzzling thing is that games I downloaded, like " Hulk : Ultimate Destruction ", I burnt and they did not work. Yet I rebuilt the ISO and the dummy data was left out. Yet when I make an ISO of MGS3 or use ISOBuster on it, the dummy data is still there!
(I'm familiar with ISOBuster not including it in the list of files automatically)

Anyway I've tried as you said, copying the files of and replacing "DUMMY.DAT" with a 1kb Text file renamed to the same thing.

I used Nero UDF/ISO mode and burnt the files. This produced the same result as when I removed the dummy.dat file.

This is truly perplexing.

if u have swap magic 3.8 (I have 3.6) use the dvd disc
use DVD Decrypter
run it and go to mode next iso and click in read then insert your original mgs3 and click in the picture where is a dvd and a hard disk
when the process has ended go another time to mode than iso and finally write
then click in the directory icon on the left side and browse your image file (MGS3.ISO for example) then put the speed at 4x and click again in the dvd hard-disk icon after burning your is ready to play
mine work like the original

I am using quality media (Verbatim) and burning at the correct speeds.

Now encountering a similar problem with FIFA2006. Must be some encoding for games that came out recently.

First I tried rebuilding the ISO and burning without the dummy data. Same thing just goes to the media page. Then I tried DVD Decrypter, with the unaltered ISO. The game only made it to the title screen.

Very similar to the MGS 3. I've wasted 5 dvds and am very upset.

why u rebuild ur image!!!!!???? i only do that for DVD9 Games
if your blank disk is a dvd (4.7 gb) and your image is less than 4.7 you dont need to eleminate and create the respectives files
i think that mgs3 image is around 4.3 gb

I rebuilt Baldur's gate 2, Incredible Hulk and Mercenaries because they would not work with the dummy data.

I burnt Fifa2006 normally with DVD Decrypter and without the dummy files neither worked.

This is really depressing.

Alright I went out and got some more dvd's.

The Verbatims only burnt at 4x. I bought some Sony DVD -R that burn ranging from 1-8x.

I plan on burning at 1x. These cost 120% more than the Verbatims.

If these fail, I might kill someone.

I did some researching and came across GNIE Expert Tools, for the rebuilding this solved the problem.
