Hi I have aproblem that maybe can help me out with.
Basically I was on a 3meg connection and I was hitting good speeds on bitcomet that was with a modem connected directly to my pc via usb connection.
I changed internet providers and now I have an 8meg connection but now I'm using a router and a usb wireless adapter.
I thought great, gonna be good speed.
But for some reason, when I open a torrent with bitcomet, it seems to take much longer than usual to connect to seeds or leechers.
When I had the 3meg connection and I opend up a torrent file, it connected fairly quickly to the seeds/leechers.
To be honest I'm not hittin good speeds at all and I done a speed test and it says it downloading at over 5megs.
The router I have is called a "2wire" and I thought when you got a router, you installed software and you could alter its settings but the router I have doesn't come with software. The router I have is used for three things, which are broadband, phone and tv stations.
I also bought a "belkin high speed g usb network adapter" and that picks up the signal from my router.
I dont know if the router or wireless adapter is the problem or maybe bitcomet is not configured properly now I have the router??
Any help on this would be great, also is these 2 things normal on bitcomet-Windows XP ICS Status: cannot find working ICS.
Windows XP UPnP Status: device not found!
Thanks for your interest rav but those guides didn't help at all.
I had to port forward my router and as I said earlier, when you enter the gateway default, it came up page not found.
The company wouldn't give out a public ip address so it didn't matter what way I configured my pc.
Anyway, a friend of mine knew a techie that worked for this company so he came out to me today and installed some driver on my pc then, he attached the router to my pc via usb and then typed something into the internet browser and wallah the settings appeared for the router.
So I told him to just disable the firewall totlly.
So now all the ports are open.
Just one more thing, now that all the ports are open on the router, will my norton antivirus be ok or should I get another router anyway and run it behind it for safety purposes?
If you have your own firewall then I think your ok.
As for speed, have you ever thought that it is the torrent and not your connection, does the torrent have a good number of seeds and leeches?
as for thinking you would get a faster download speed with bittorrent when you got your 8Meg connection, it doesn't always worrk like that, your download speed in p2p apps relies on the upload speed of others to provide you with a good speed.
Now that you have opened all the ports in your router you should have no problems.
Give the torrent time, if it is a healthy torrent it should pick up a good speed.
And remember just because you got a good connection does not mean everyone else on the other end of the p2p app has one as well, it all depends on your fellow peers upload speed for your download speed.
There was a couple of reasons for the crap speeds and connections.
A friend of a friend worked for this company and he sent me over a software cd that contained drivers and also a usb cable.
I installed the drivers and when i hooked it up the usb cable to the router and typed a password in the internet browser, it let me into the router settings.
This company swore blind that they didn't block ports, but they had the firewall on max.
I disabled the firewall and the speeds did increase but not to my liking for an 8meg connection.
In the end it turns out my line can only accept a 5meg connection so I downgraded to a 4meg connection and now my speed is as it should be.
