Recently, I have been getting this error message when I start my PC

Reboot and select Proper Boot Device or
Insert Boot media into Selected Boot device.

When I press a key on my keyboard, the same message pops up. But when I restart my PC ([Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Del]), everything is OK. But this mesage comes up everytime I start my PC after it has been turned off for quite some time. Restarting solves the problem, but this message is not supposed to appear if an os is installed. Is something wrong with my hard drive?

sukhvail,
Yes, infact I had recently repartitioned my entire hard disk. But I don't understand why the prompt comes up only the first time. Restarting solves the problem though. And, the question is not about booting into XP, the boot menu itself dosen't show up.(the WIN98 and XP menu).
My current boot order is:
1. CD-RW
2. HDD
3. FDD
I currently don't have an internet connection on my home PC, and I am posting this from a public computer. I'll try to change the boot order to HDD, CD-RW, FDD and then post it over here.

dpp,
I have heard from some others that it may be a motherboard problem, but I don't understand how. Recently, my Power LED stopped working, and I found out that the LED slot on the motherboard is not working. So something is definately wrong with the motherboard. It's under warranty by Intel, will such problems be covered under warranty? Anyway, I may not be able so arrange a spare HDD, but i'll try.

EDIT: Problem solved. Just found out that I had accidentally changed the jumper position of the HD. It's supposed to be set to Master for me.
