Hello, I just purchased 1 gb of pny dual channel-2 512 and I was wondering which would be faster just the dual aor the dual and my old 512 of kbyte which is also ddr2 pc533-4200.

You can't run dual channel and single channel together...if you do it reverts to all single channel...in other words you would have 1.5 Gb of memory running in single channel mode.

dude what? if u have 1gb dual channel and u add another 512 stick the pc looses the dual chanel boost but gains it if u add a 256mb or more ram
in conclusion a pc that is in dual channel and u add a stick of 128mb it looses performance but if u add a stick of 256mb or more it makes it up for the dual channel

I think in the overall picture of average use, the dual channel is faster. Because of the way the memory is used by the OS.

dual channel is faster i know i have dual channel right now but as i said b4 if u switch to single channel u LOOSE performance but u make it up if u add a 256mb or more ram

Ok, now we're talking apples and oranges here. If you start talking allocation, sure the 1.5 is more/better. Dual channel is going to be "faster" than single channel, provided he is not running multiple processes which will "use" all the memory he has available in dual channel mode, then the 1.5 would be the better choice.
So to verify which is faster....let him do this....memory is easy to install, run benchmark test on the 1 GB in the dual channel configuration. Then install the other 512 stick, run the same test and read the results.

this is a good idea 1st benchmark 1gb in dual channel then benchmark 1gb in single channel then benchmark the 1gb and add a 256mb stick or more

There is a freeware benchmarking program called "MemTach" that is available on http://www.majorgeeks.com
This is a wonderful site with a generous offering of freeware and shareware programs. I know that most of their stuff is clean (no unwanted spyware, etc.)
There are probably better programs out there, this just happens to be one I've seen.
