Hi,new here so hope this is in the right forum, I have a Sony RDR-GX210 DVD recorder,it works fine no problems there but if I try to play DVD'S such as those given away with newspapers etc,it ejects the disk and says cannot play this disk,why is that and is there a way to make it play? would appreciate any suggestions,for which I thank you in advance ....

I'm not sure what you mean by "given away with newspapers". If you mean small or odd-shaped discs, then you may have to run those in another player or your computer. BTW, you really shouldn't use those odd-shaped discs at all, as they create balance problems.

-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

They are normal DVD,s usually older ones just given away by newspapers,magazines to boost circulation,almost all the national newspapers do it all the time nowadays ...

have no problem with my Sony
have you tried cleaning the laser?
check the give away (they are abused) for scratches etc.
if your recorder is new get it replaced as faulty
