Can't burn dvd using nero 7 (and other dvd-burning software).....

Hey guys, would like some serious help here. My head is recked. All of a sudden I cant burn a dvd. I use to do it all the time but from last night I couldn't. I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4040B. Firmware is A109. It burns for a little bit then an error comes up. I saved the log an this is it. I dont know anything about these logs and what I'm supposed to be looking for. Hi danmay86
What other burning software gives you a burn failure? Remember the error message?
Is it only +RW discs failing or have you tried -/+ R's?

I cant really remember the actual error messege. Said something about my drive. I also used CopyToDVD and WinAVI. Ill download the new firmware version now.I havnt tried any other discs.I havnt got any.Im just using Sony DVD+RW's.It was ok burning movies until like 3 days ago.But ill try the firmware but I dont know if that will fix it.I hope i dont have to buy a new drive.

Ok so 3 softwares are giving you a failure.
The firmware is good to keep up to date but might not fix this error.
The log shows a Reset occurred.
So when you try again - no multitasking and shut down any uneccesary programs.
For the rw discs - have these been written to b/4? If they have do a full erase in Nero.
You do have a couple of these in the log (it's an older drive)(KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR)
But let's try and rule out a few more possibilities.
You can also try and burn w/ ImgBurn (free)
http://imgburn.com
Try that one - press 'L' to start a log. If it fails post that log.

I tried using ImgBurn an it didnt even start burning.I never do run anything while Im burning. I just leave my computer and let it do it. Yeh ive burnt movies to the DVD+RW but Ive erased them so there blank again. I can never do a full erase. Say I do a full erase in Nero, Nero just freezes and I have to end the program. I can only do a Quick erase. But ive never had trouble b4 this happened. I usually just burnt the movie and it asked me if I wanted to overwrite what was on the disc. I tried Nero burning rom again and it doesnt even start to burn. it was normally burning half way through until the error came. But now it doesnt even start burning. heres another log from Nero...

Ok - both Nero and ImgBurn don't like this disc right off the bat.
Both logs are giving an error that point to the media - Illegal disc & Cannot Write Medium - Incompatible Format
So your best bet is to try different media - try the + or - R discs.
For your drive look for media rated no higher than 8x.
Ones to try are Verbatim, made in Japan only Sony, Fuji or Maxell.
You could try and do a full erase in the ImgBurn but I would still try different media to rule that out.
You might also want to try and clean the lens on the burner.

hey guys ive done it. The disc must of been faulty or something.lol.I couldnt full erase it and someone told me to try another disc because that one might be bad. So I put another one in and full erased it. Then tried burnin the movie and it burned fine. Thanx for all your replies though. Really appreciate your help.

hi, i'm having the same problem. I used to burn normal data dvds before (i was able to put roughly 4.35 gb on a 4.5 gb disc) without problems. then, a couple of weeks ago, I start getting the 'illegal disc , could not finish disc-at-once' message. I tried uninstalling Nero, used Nero clean tools, and upgraded to Nero 7. I defragmented my 2 hard drives, and i re-installed my firmware (it should be the latest one). I tried making an image, and then burning it using Alcohol 120, but to no avail.
somebody please tell me what to do, i don't want to resort to either reformatting my hard drive or buying a new cd drive.
Using:
-Toshiba SD-R5372 with TU56 firmware
-TDK DVD+R

Glad to hear you got it worked out!
I'd do a full erase on the rw's - may take a bit longer but might lessened the chance for a failure.

Biggest problem I see in the log is the media:
Disc Manufacturer ID: CMC.MAG
Not the best by far - one of the biggest problem causers. Your burn fails towards the end - another sign of bad media.
Better to use would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
