dear friends,

I have sony dvd drive which supports dvd-ram,but when I try to burn data on a dvd-ram ir prompts for a DVD-RW and doesn't accept the disc, even in the disc info part it reports no free space on the disc while it's a new one... what's really the difference between DVD-RW and dvd-ram?

and another question is that are data saved on a dual layer disc in a continues manner?or these two layers are like two seperate sides of a disc?

For writing DVD-RAM discs i think you will need an update on Nero 6 which you can get from here: http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/eng/nero-up.php, i dont know the differnce between DVD-RW and DVD-RAM and the DVD DL dics i have, have only one recording side.
Hope this helps

The DL discs are like the commercial DL discs most movies are done on now. There are two layers on the same side of the disc, thus doubling the size to almost 9GB. This is why it has to be shrunk to fit on the 4.7BG single layer DVD + -Rs when doing DL movies. If using DL media then no shrinkage is needed and the DVD can be copied exactly.

If you're gonna burn DL media, make sure to rip to ISO using DVD Decrypter and burn that ISO with ImgBurn. That's what I (and many others) recommend.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

As far as I know, Nero will not burn to RAM discs. RAM discs when used for movies, etc, record using the DVD-Video Recording Format, as opposed to dvd-r's, which use the DVD-Video format.I think that Nero only supports the latter. However, you should be able to use your RAM discs for, eg, data back up, using Windows explorer, just as you would a floppy disc.(ie copy & paste etc). Your burner should have supplied RAM formatting software to make this possible.
Hope this helps!

DL discs are like two separate discs that just so happen to share the same side. That's why you need a layer break flag to tell a reading device to access the next layer. So, if you're trying to save non-video data i.e. use it as a DVD-ROM, then you will likely have problems.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

What model is the Sony Drive?

It isn't a DVD-Ram reader only?

A friend of mine has an LG drive which reads DVD-Ram but won't write to it.
