First time poster so please be kind...smile

I did a silly thing today and hope I havent buggered my dvd burner. I wanted to copy a cd but the disk had a fairly big rip in the cover that was pealing off. I saw it and didnt think, just put it in to burn.

The burn stopped and just stayed on 17%. I had to ctrl alt delete Nero to stop, and when I took the disk out there was no cover on it at all...Just a clear disk. It was quite funny till I realised it was all in my burner ha ha Just to make it a bit worse, I blew in it to push it out (?????) I'm not sure how that was ever going to work...Now the drawer wont open at all.

Is there any hope for me or do I just head straight to the shop and buy one?

Hope someone can help me
Jo

Well, most Burners have a little hole below the tray where you can insert a pin or a thin wire to release the tray mechanism and open it. See if that works. Maybe something is still jammed. If not. I think you'll have to buy a new one. Best thing is they are not that expensive.

If I always hear voices surrounding me, does it mean Im crazy or that I hear in Dolby 5.1?

Welcome bubbly011 before i buy a new one. I would pull the burner out this will void any warranty not like this problem is covered. take the screws out pull the cover off and remove all paper put it back togther and reinstall I would think it should be fine make sure all mechanics gears moving parts are clear too. Also I would not be using stickers on my disk espically with DVDs sometimes with some stand alone players they have trouble reading the disk, for some reason it effects the laser. Good luck let us know how it goes.

Another reason not to put labels on CD's & DVD's, do as slmb1296 says and maybe you'll be lucky.

sorry guys...I didnt explain that properly, it wasn't a sticker...it was the paint or whatever is already on it. It was a printable one as i print straight on the disk.

I did try the hole but it didnt open still.

Thanx heaps for your help, I'll let you know how it goes

If the hole thing nor the screws thing worked, I think the next logical step is using a crowbar. LOL.

I'll keep the crowbar in mind after I try the screws thing...LOL

I was thinking a good kick but the crowbar would have a much better effect!! hehe

if you ever cut into a CD-R or DVD-R before they are differnt CD-R willmake a nice cut as the DVD-R the thin metal layer will crack and crumble i found that out when we did that so if ther is whole on the or ur disc CD or DVD my aswell be a brand new coaster no mount of re buffing will change that personally a new dvd RW drive will be the better way to go. i even seenthat they have dvd -+R DL Drives out now

Hi again boys and girls...

well, I've taken the burner out and cleaned it of all the paint (or whatever is on top of a disk). Don't know if it will work yet though. I have bought a new burner in case the old one wont work seeing as they are so cheap and if it works I have 2...YAY!!

I'm just trying to set them both up though...does anyone know of any pages that explain in great detail. I am not bad with the puter but dont know the names of the cables or anything so I need dummies guide type instructions...one with pictures...LOL

If anyone can help they would make this girl one happy camper
