I'm trying to use bit torrent. I downloaded the program and i get really slow download speeds. I've read threads on opening ports. I have a webstar 2100 cable modem with windows xp home. I'm just really lost on that part. please help!

What kind of file are you trying to download, because if it does not have many seeds it will not go fast no matter what your setting are.

Well unless your modem also functions as a router....there is not need to forward ports. You did not mention your connection, or like Philip said, the stength of the torrent. There are many factors to consider when trying to optomize speeds, so provide some more info and then we will go from there.

he was right there wasn't enough seeds/ I acually managed to get some stuff. But I have run in to another problem. I'm trying to move something on to a dvd. The file says dvdrip XviD. I opened that up and it had two cds. It looked like files that needed to be open by WinRAR. so i did that. Now i can watch what i have. and when i look at the properties it says dmd-takelead-cd1 windows movie. can i put that onto a dvd. or is there more to it?

use virtual dub, and join the two cd's into one. Then burn them to Dvd. Your Dvd player needs to support DivX to play them though. If it doesnt, use winavi to convert the DivX to dvd format, then burn. Lots of guides on all that here.

well i tried using virtual dub and it throws an error at me.
coudn't locate decompressor for format 'xvid' (unknown)
VirtualDub requires a video for window (vfw) compatible codec to decompress. direct show codecs such as those used by windows media player are not suitable.
This happens when i try to open video file.

Well, that pack should have the codects virtual dub was talking about, it also comes with Windows Media Classic, which is a great media player. After installation, just try the V dub process again. Open up cd 1, drag the bar all the way to the end, do to file, append AVI or whatever, then choose the second cd. After that, under audio and video, select direct stream, then save the newly formed AVI. burn to disk then your done :)

finally i got it. you said it my dvd player has to support dvix. is this still true.? if so do most dvd players support this?

I dont think the run of the mill Dvd player does. Im no expert in Dvd players, so I cant honestly tell you that. If your Dvd player doesnt support the format, you can either watch it on your comp, Xbox (assuming you have xbox media center) or buy a compatible Dvd player, which will cost around $50.

If you want to burn the DivX, Nero is fine. Just burn it as a data dvd, and you will be fine.
