i can't find any info specific to the A7N8X-LA, but all other versions of the A7N8X support DDR400 so i would assume that is what it supports. as far as i know there aren't any Socket A processors with 64bit support.

You can use up to 3x 1GB PC3200 DDR ram sticks, any make would do.
No you won't be using 64 bit cpu's in that board at all.

Hi,
I couldn't find reference to the LA board either so just picked an Asus A7N8X of another version.
It does appear that it is actually identical to the following board (you may want to confirm).
http://uk.asus.com/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=221&l1=3&l2=1...

If so, then it will indeed only accept 2 modules, but they are only PC2700 not PC3200 as said before.
If you plan to up the memory then cheapest option is just to replace the 256MB stick with another 512MB, although you could just stick a 1GB stick in as it won't effect performance in any way having 2 different sizes.
Personally I would just add the 512MB as it is pointless spending too much money on older systems, as the performance gain is not going to make a dent on gaming playing performance with newer games, just don't expect too much from the system.

This will work:
