hey, i'm trying to upgrade my ram and have determined that its ddr, at the moment i have 512mb and the system's struggling so i need some more only i dont know what the pc number of the ram is. I've been told it's vital to know this but the sticker on the ram i have doesn't give it.

the only info i've got is mt8vddt6464ag-40bdb 200438 cctajhj005
512mb ddr, 400,cl3

a google search for mt8vddt6464ag-40bdb kept bringing up pc3200 so i just wanted to check if this was right. Any help greatly appreciated

DDR 400mhz is PC3200, that's the significance of 400mhz. 333mhz is PC2700 and 266mhz is PC2100. Do you know what make your current RAM is? Does it have any logos on it that might give that away? It's important to try and get similar RAM to add to it or compatibility issues may arise.

thanks for the help, that's cleared things up a bit. I'm not sure of what make the ram is, what i wrote above is all that was on it, it was the one that came with the pc, a packard bell.

I was thinking of getting this for the second ram slot

In store? Because this is better: http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductInfoComm.asp?ID=20889
Best to check what RAM it is you have first. If it's an obscure brand I'd recommend getting rid of it, buying more replacement RAM if necessary.

ahh looks good! Thanks for all your help.Judging from what you've said I might just remove the 512mb and try the 1gb on its own to see how much the performance improves and then get an extra 512 if it's still not up to speed.

Where would i be without afterdawn. Thanks!

Good performance comes from one stick. Best performance comes from two identical sticks, same brand, same size, same everything.
