I'm fully aware that this is a common problem and is likely the source of a thousand posts a day, but after almost two days of obsessive attempts to get this to work I've broken down and decided to see if anyone has any suggestions.
The situation:
-BitTorrent does not work. I use the BitLord client. When I open torrent files, I basically get stuck at the connecting to peers phase. No slow download, no seeder information..Nothing. Just sits there trying to connect to something. I've tried this on very healthy torrent files.
-I am connected wirelessly to a Linksys router. I've assigned a static IP address to my computer, input all the DNS, mask and gateway information blah blah blah.
-I have configured the router to allow access to the desired port/port-range with port forwarding. I got the port number from BitLord and disabbled the UPnP features on both the BitLord software and the router. I've tried changing around the ports a few times...Tried things in the 6000s, 18000s and 50000s so the range being blocked (??) seems pretty extensive.
-I am running Norton AntiVirus and have configured it to exclude BitLord. Am I missing anything essential with the firewall? Whether it is the Windows XP firewall or the Norton firewall?
-LimeWire also does not work (does not connect) when I go through these steps.
EXTREMELY frustrated as I'm unable to download soccer games.
Is this an issue that is impossible to get around? I'm not even sure if it is my university blocking the ports (anyway to check?) or if it is an issue with Norton AV, etc.
Well if your connected to a University they are probably blocking the ports them selves.
But if that s not the case, when i had a firewall on even if the programs accepted it was still blocked, and when I turned it off it was downloading.
Try using an earlier version of bittorrent, I had the same problem of it not opening, but with an earlier version had no trouble.
Look for a program called "bittorrent downloader accelorator pro" without that the torrents wouldn't even start with me, as my router won't accept the port without it's firewall, this will give it enough juice to get through.
Well I hope this helps you.
srry mods if this is against the rules, but this is technicly a giude.
