Ok I am back to looking for a budget computer and i would like to ask you guys what you think of this:

http://factorydirect.ca/catalog/product_spec.php?pcode=EM3123

It's a Emachines D3123. It's bundled with a refubished 19" Crt for $299.99 canadian.

I know its refurbished but it looks like an awesome deal.
i could just add another stick of ram and an geforce 7600 gt and it would be perfect.

SHould I buy it?

You should have stopped talking after you said Emachines... :P

It does look decent. Sempron processor is a scalled-down Athlon, usually because the math coprocessor didn't pass the required tests or was functioning incorrectly. So of course it won't be good for gaming or any intense graphics work such as rendering or AutoCAD. And it's an Emachines, one of the worst computers you can buy!

250$ isn't bad though. It may make a decent Linux server or something. In conclusion: I don't think I would buy it however I am not you.

Well, it wouldn't do much for gaming; as most systems require better hardware even at their minimum settings. So, if you're content spendign money on a rig that can't play new games, it's fine, I noticed no mention of a video card... Mmmmmmmm eMachines with onbaord video.... That'll be good.

Cheap price; but really, you get what you pay for.

If you're going to go through the trouble of changing hardware, even something as simple as a video card; I am going to suggest two things, that will help you a lot in the longrun.

-Add more ram. It would probably be good to see the exact module of memory that is included, so you can get an exact duplicate, and run dual channel mode.

-Don't use their Windows install, re-do it yourself, eMachines, like Gateway uses a fair amount of crapware that can reduce performance. And while you're doing this, be sure to look into updating the bios on the motherboard, eMachines, again like Gateway and even some others, tends to include a slightly customized one that makes their logo pop up over the initial post screens, and can prevent you from getting to the menus you might need. Not to mention, they are ugly looking logos usually.

Aside from that, you might get some joy out of it; although the speed of the processor is still slightly concerning. Now is that a sempron 1800, or an actual 1.8ghz?
