I just got this old laptop (Compaq Armada 7400)and I was
told by a self proclaimed genius where I work that it was
overclocked and would burn up before long.
Here are the specs is this alright?
I am not familiar with much beyond windows.

x86 family 6 Model 6
Stepping 10 Genuine Intel~365mhz

Thanks
This is my first post.

I have no idea of the history of that computer, but laptops don't just overclock themselves, someone must have done it. 365mhz doesn't sound very right, but it could be. I'm not all that good with the steppings of older P2s/Celerons but you may want to look up some model numbers to see what it should be.

I ahve a tobisha 450 P2 myself its mobile "program" changes the CPU speed and such when it gets lower on power it might be set to save power and keep the CPU running low.

Unless you can spot a CPU change program or change the CPU speeds in the bios I a at a loss on the speed you qouted.

I dont know about newer laptops but older oens saved power by cutting back on the CPU clock ,it all realy depneds on what he/she has.
mabye if they ahve a model and serail it can be found on goolge or on compaqs page.

Well that's not unfamiliar, Athlon64s do it with cool and quiet, and my X1900XT does it as well.

You want to go and have a look at either the multiplier settings or the front side bus. However, at 366mhz it sounds right. 365 is odd, but 366 is allowed.

you need to make sure the bios is what is controlling the CPU throttleing.

these hits point to you need the DIAGS partition in order to config your laptop.

the frist one has links if you dont have have any.
the other says it boots fine from CD and floppy if you got it,so you should be able to get it running it depnds on how easy they made the DIAGS stuff..

Oddiests in ramm lappys are bad about it,try swaping places put the 66 where the 100 is,then test it with the 100 alone.
it it jumps to 400 then we know the ram was holding you back.
