Bit Torrent damages computer??

I use BitComet and the computer is on almost all the time. Recently, after about 8 months of using this computer, it starts to have hardware problem. The problem is that it cannot not boot up. Even when it boots up and goes into Windows, it sometimes hard crashes and restarts.

I originally suspected that the BT program and the file transferring overworked the hard drive, and thus damaged it. But after I unplugged all the hard drives, and started the computer to go to BIOS settings, even then, the computer keeps on hard crashing and restarts.

Now I suspects the power supply and/or the motherboard is damaged. Or something is wrong with the CMOS setting?? I am pretty sure that the Bit Torrent program has something to do with this problem because 8 months ago I had exactly the same problem with the previous old computer.

Any suggestions?

Sometimes constant downloading and slow writing of files to the hard drive can damage it, better brands more likely to withstand try replacing the hard drive and if it seems to boot then that may be it.

Have you considered heat an issue? Make sure that the CPU heatsink is free of dust and the fan is spinning freely. Overheating causes the exact type of problem you are describing.

The PC is just a basic one.

I clean out the dust, disconnected and reconnected all the cables, switched to a good hard drive.
The system is still unstable. Once in a while I can get the whole system up and running, but that is after many times of switching the power on. It seems that the power supply is weak and have hard time to power up the hard drive. The PSU is 450W and came with case.

My guess is that the PSU and/or a component of the mobo is damaged/unstable. The BT software certainly did not damage the hard drive. But leaving the computer on for long periods of time in the warm weather of southern California without air con was certainly not good for the computer. But I would be surprised if the issue is really overheating because I dont overclock or gaming

The power supplies that comes with the cases are mostly junk. If the new case I want for a build comes with a ps I put it in the hope I never have to use pile and put in a decent one. They may say large wattage but that usuall isn't uder a load and they just won't hold up. JMO

Totally agree with johnnyd54, never get those come with towers, unless delicated ones. It is usually best to buy independent psu as it can be a main factor which causes hardware failure.

As the restart problem, I also had same problem. But I fixed it by open up the tower and cleanse the interior with pressured air. XD

On the other hand, I used BitComet quite often too. I doubt it causes the hardware problem, as it has been more than 3 years and my computer still working.

The new BitComet client has fixed bugs and implemented many features.
