I have a sony dru-710a burner and just updated my firmware from by01 to BYX5 . I disable my dma while I did the upgrade but now Im having problems burning discs. I am using dvdshrink and it fails while writing in leads. Ive tried different firmware upgrades as well and I am still having the same problem. Just wanted to know if I am doing something wrong....thanks

DMa should be enabled for all drives...here is a guide to reenable DMA:

Sony burner FW updates are a pain, disabling DMA is correct for flashing, after a successful flash you would then re-enable as was posted.

If you still have problems maybe the flash was not successful.

Do you have an Intel chipset? Sony in the past wanted you to uninstall Intel Application Accelerator from the PC before executing a firmware update.

Hi there,

I read that too, from the NEC website.
There was no way I was going to remove this, flash my drive and reinstall.

I just went and Flash.

I flashed my burners and my father in law's burner with the "Intel Application Accelerator" installed and active and never had an issue.

Maybe they suggest this to be 100% safe.
