Is there a way that I can burn an audio cd to be played in any player, but when someone trys to rip it or extract the audio files they cannot because it is either encrypted or password protected? Is there a certain program that can do this? Thanks!

I have been searching for a similar solution, as i want to be able to protect my own music from mass sharing online.

MP3 Guard. http://www.zappersoftware.com/mp3guard.html

Not exactly what i was looking for in regards to password protecting an audio cd.

Probably a better and less-restrictive method would be to simply use WinRAR or WinZIP and create a password-protected file and burn that to disc. I'd use quickpar to make some recovery volumes too if you have the space, just in case.

Although the MP3Guard might work, it is very limited in capability, costs money, and many users - especially savvy or security-conscious ones- won't allow the installation of the software needed to decrypt them, nor will they tolerate the compatibility problems and phoning home caused by using licensed mode. Plus, it appears breakable. In other words, MP3Guard has a lot of the same problems facing all other DRM schemes.

Frankly, even encrypting your files using GNUpg or PGP would be better.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Another solution might be here

http://www.cdmediaworld.com/hardware/cdrom/cd_utils_3.shtml

There are a few apps here that might do the job. I tested cdd lock with good results. So far i cant access the audio cd on my pc lol.

They all seem to have the same problem - require you to install some sort of decryption software, or they don't work with certain drives. This is fine if the CD is for personal use or use by people who are willing to use whatever software you require, but it would be problematic if you intend to offer your CD publicly.
