Hey I just bought a Sony KDF-50E2000 50" TV. I just purchased it last night, sadly though its going to take a couple days for them to deliver it :(

Do I need to buy additional cables to get my picture better quality? The sales man said I should get better component cables. Also I have 30 days to get the extended warrenty on that TV. Its about $200 or 2 yrs.. or like $500 for 4yrs and you get 1 free bulb replacment. Do you think its worth spending the money on that.. i really dont want to pay another $500 (obviously) but I will if it's a necessity.

Congrats - that's a good LCD display from Sony. I would use HDMI whever possible or component if you have no other choice. Your display has 2 HDMI inputs and 3 component inputs.

Now it's time to get HD sources:

1. Sign up for high def programing from your cable or satellite provider.
2. Try out one of the upconverting DVD players - Oppo and Denon are good brands. Sony, Toshiba and Samsung are other makers with good upconverting DVD players. These convert standard DVD to 720p or 1080i.
3. If you have the resources try out the new HD formats: HD-DVD or BluRay.

That makes me feel better in my dicision then if you post. Wow you bought that crappy TV? :)
You say make everything HDMI. Is HDMI better than component? Also does it matter the quality (price) of the HDMI/Component cable that I use?

1. Yes i have to get HD channels now! I have comcast digital cable right now w/o HD obviously.
2. I have 2 DVD players right now. They are both 2 years old though. Do i need a special DVD player that upconverts? or is a DVD player with Component inputs enough?
3. Thats not going to happen. Ill have to wait for HD-DVD or Blueray to win the race before I spend $200 on a HDDVD player let alone $1000
