I just finished looking at Silent Hill and noticed something strange...PGC 23 of the main menu is fake, but referenced. Did anyone else notice that it contains the first 2 chapters of the main movie?

This is another aspect of ARccOS corruption that that is similar to something I was working on a while back. However, luckily Sony did it wrong so far. This type of corruption has a potential to cause problems, however, I will not get into that.

For now, it means that Menushrink, VobBlanker, IFOEdit, PGCEdit, or DRM should be used to reduce the menu size. Menushrink is the easiest approach and will take care of the menu without any user input. For VobBlanker, either delete or blank the PGC, for IFOEdit, unreference the PGC via VM Commands and then process the menu with FixVTS, for PGCEdit, either unreference the PGC through VM commands or blank the PGC and then process the menu with FixVTS. For DRM, you can do either approach.

If there are any requests, I can post a modified menu for the DVD.

Believe me, there is potential. The second version of my corruption was similar to this and I stopped AnyDVD+CloneDVD2. However, it looks like Sony will not implement this correctly. Either way, I am not too worried about this right now, but it was more of a "caution" to people.

I am more worried about people that do not care about what they are doing and only want to get a backup done with as few clicks as possible. Taking a few extra steps to reduce the menu size can greatly increase the movie quality.

"For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction". Whatever Sony divises, SlySoft will defeat....:-)

really my copy that i bought i tryed to straight up make a copy of it and got a really nasty error with DVD Decrypter and finally got fed up and used AnyDVD&CloneDVD well later that nite when me and a couple of my friends starting watching the original copy its started skipping and what not. They need to just knock off the corruption and errors on the disc and just do it like everyone else they r gunna screw with the movie so much that they will release a non working ver all together

@aabbccdd,

What do you mean the file looks smaller than normal? Do you mean the file size or the actual play time?

@spOrin,

Something went wrong then. I used DVD Decrypter for Silent Hill and playback was flawless. If the original skips, then there is a chance that it got scratched or dusty. There is also a possibility of a bad pressing. I agree that the corruption can cause problems. Not only that, but all the FBI Warnings can as well. Those can wear out a DVD laser faster and also they are just too long...

I've noticed this kind of corruption on most of the Sony dvd's when I try to compress it to 4.7 dvd; usually no picture just sound or sometimes the burned dvd won't even play. But it usually works when you burn it uncompressed on a dual layered disc using AnyDVD and
1click copy.

You can try processing the DVD with FixVTS. Are you using AnyDVD in the background while ripping? Something is definately not going right, because you should not be having this sort of problem. Maybe you are ripping with DVD Decrypter and not setting it up for AnyDVD?

Also, make sure your AnyDVD is the most up to date. AnyDVD works by having lots of small updates rather than a few large updates. Maybe you are using a version that cannot properly rip your movie, like a pre-Ripguard AnyDVD.

If you are not using AnyDVD to rip in any way, then either check out one of my guides, the PSL Guide by Cynthia, the DVDFab guide by Alkohol, or the Ripit4Me guide.
