Is there really a big difference between projectors and Screens?

Many, many years ago, I bought a projector at a pawn shop to resell on Ebay. After bringing it home I decided to shoot it on my white wall in my basemant. If you woud have seen my wife, you woudl have thought that I just split the atom, but not so. I did however discover projection TV is the way to go. Now, I was happy with my projector , so I went out and bought a $180.00 8'x6' screen. Since then I have bought a new projector doe to the fact the other one burned up, but now Im ready to move on. Currently I have a Sanyo, I paid about $700.00 it looks fine. Here is my question. If I decide to upgrade, just how much better is a better projector and or a better screen. Can you compare my $950.00 setup to a $2000.00 set up like a black and white tv to a color tv? Id love to have a clear picture, but whats the cost. I would not pay $1000.00 more for an S-video connection. Can you buy a so-so projector and a high dollar screen , or vice versa? I think it's difficult to decide becasue you cant just waltz inot the TV store and compare. If anyone can help me out,ID appreciate it. By the way, I love this site!!!!
