hi guy's and gals :)
i may be over simplistic <? .if i am, you have my permission to beat me with a big stick or in binkie's case a whipp (i like a good whipping)

i've found that no matter what tools i use to uninstall any prog, be it the firms tools...awido...ccleaner...regcleaner etc. they always leave trailers all over the place.
the only way i've found after using all the above. is to search files and delete all the rest manually. works for me

@gurnard

How could anybody beat a sweet guy like you :)

I have done the search and deleted the files, but in the case of doing an uninstall and reinstall of Nero its hard to tell which is an old and which is a new. I did try to uninstall Nero 6 using the Clean Tool, and Nero Reg cleaner and then Reg Vac. Went to nstall 7 and it would not install, it kept yelling about a missing Nero 6 Media Player. I ended up putting 6 back in so it could find the Media Player and delete, anything to make the program happy :)

Naughty boy you :0)

I try to avoid the regedit if I can - I have to pay more attention when doing that :) But you are right - always something behind no matter which prog you use.

Dang rbrock - what a pain!! Guess you won't be trying Nero 7 again anytime soon ;) Who know 7.5 may be the answer! Would be nice but I kinda doubt it.

@ arniebear hi :)
must admit i haven't tried 7 (mainly because of all the bad reviews) and the 6 i use is more ancient than me. 6.6.0.18 is on the shelf waiting if i should ever need it.
most of my stuff is done with Shrink...Decrypter...Anydvd and DivXtoDVD

@gurnard

You are right when you start tinkering something always happens, lol.

@binkie

I hope that 7.5 is the answer, but somehow I doubt it too. Maybe they will get it right by 8 or 9 maybe 10 :)

Personally I gave up on Nero 7.0 and went back to Nero 6.0 a while ago (6.60.1.8) per Binkie's suggestion, this one burns audio cd's great, no skipping or chirping like 7.0 did, Nero Recode seems to work better in 6.0, and it does not have the horrible media scout feature that is residing in 7.0. Thank the Lord I didn't pay anything for the upgrade(BBuy free after rebate special)

They are gonna have to do something with 7 anyway I couldn't get it to work with Windows Beta Vista, although 6 worked fine. Think they ought to go back and look at 6 and see what they missed and did not add to 7.

Yeah I think they are just trying to do way too much with this program.
They seem to want to be the end all be all multi purpose media software.
Ain't working for them.

7 is not a 'one version works for most users'. It comes down to finding what version works best for you & pc specs. Hassle to figure out :)

@blivetnc
Gotta love the rebates - if I would've paid full price or close for 7 I would have been pissed!!

@arniebear
I think I read where they have yet to work out the compatiblity Vista & 7.

It figures, they will probably release Nero 8 which will only work on Vista and us XP users will be stuck in Nero 7 hell.

Maybe Nero is 'conspiring' w/ Microsoft - one way to get people to use Vista:)
No way in hell I will go near Vista in the near future. Now that will be one buggy os. I can't even imagine the 1st users problems - yikes!

Time for me to get on the ball and learn Linux!

I hope I do not regret saying this, but from what ALL I have read on here and other places I think WE all need to boycott Nero. It is such ashame as Nero USED to be one of my favorite programs for burning, ripping etc. Now I just cringe when I see the latest updates of 7 coming out. So, Nero 6.6.0.15 is the ONLY program where I have not updated to their lastest version. Nero may wonder why WE stay where WE are, but I think the message is clear, WE ALL DON'T LIKE Nero 7. Maybe before Nero starts making another update to 7 they really need to consider what they are doing and not doing, and consider how things really worked with 6 and NOT 7.

Well I finally got another email from Nero on my MP3 encoding problems this was their answer........will try it although it does not make sense and report back if it works.

Quote:
thank you for your email and your interest in our software.

As for your problems with MP3 encoding:
Please delete all Nero 7 applications off of your system using our special Nero 7 CleanTool.

First make sure you have your Nero 7 serial number. You will need it to install Nero/NeroExpress.

Launch Nero StartSmart and open the Nero ProductCenter by clicking
on the "Nero" logo in the upper left corner.
Select the "Serial Numbers" tab to view your serial number.

Alternatively, you can also find your serial number as follows:
Open the Registry by clicking on "Start" in Windows, clicking on "Run", entering "regedit" in the text field, and confirming with "OK".

Now select the path
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ahead\Installation\Families\Nero 7\Info
Double-click on the "serial7" entry.
Your serial number can be found at this location.

The serial number is structured as follows:
1Cxx-xxxx-xxxx-...

When you have your serial number, proceed to download the Nero 7 CleanTool using the following link:
ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/General-CleanTool_7.zip
Save this file to your Desktop.
Unzip the CleanTool with WinZIP or WinRAR and double-click on the .exe file.
Reboot your system when the CleanTool has finished.
The Registry will have been cleaned and all Nero entries removed.

After this process has been completed, download and install the latest Nero 7 version from our website using the following link:
http://www.nero.com/nero7/eng/nero7-up.php

Enter your Nero 7 serial number to make your Nero into a permanent version. (The download without a serial number is a trial version only).

If you have problems with burning CDs, then please send us another e-mail with a copy of your Nero log file attached so we can make a detailed analysis of the problem.

Nero Burning ROM and Nero Express will automatically create a log file at the end of every write attempt. (The log file will be created even if the burning process has failed).

The default folder where this log file is saved depends on whether you were using Nero Burning ROM or NeroExpress.
For -> Nero Burning ROM: C:\Programs\Ahead\Nero
For -> NeroExpress: C:\Programs\Ahead\NeroExpress

The name of this log file is
NeroHistory.log

The ten last burning processes are saved in this log file.
If possible, please specify the date and the time of the burning process in question so we can examine it specifically.

Attach the log file to your e-mail.

Should you have any other request, please don't hesitate to contact us again

Okay all, I did what the email from Nero stated dl the exact same program I already had installed, then cleaned with the clean tool. Did a reg clean with two different programs after the clean tool and found 2000 leftover reg entries. Did a search on C and found more leftovers, then installed Nero 7 again. And guess what.......the encoder still no workee. This is why I paid Nero the big bucks :(

@audiofile
Nah - at this point I wouldn't regret that stmt.

I started using Nero when all it did was audio/cd's. Can't rememebr the version but it's been a while. So for them to screw that up in 7 - what they starting out doing - is pretty bad imho. This last version finally fixed it for me but doesn't look like it did for arniebear. I'm sure there's others that still have problems w/ it.

@rbrock
I guess if Nero finally gets hit in the pocket they may pay more attention to getting a product right. Nothing is really bug free for all but they could sure do a better job.

@arnibear
2000 entries!
Are you going stay on them? May not even be worth the hassle.

I sent them an email back that it did not work, I plan on just driving them crazy. I also am going restore my system back to 6 just for my own peace of mind though. I would like to be able to encode my audio books for my MP3 player, granted I could use another program but I like Nero.........well I did like Nero :(

All together now gang ... On three ... 1 ... 2 ... 3 ...
YOU SUCK Nero 7

binkie: I, too have been using Nero for quite awhile myself, but you have to admit this really is no excuse for Nero with all their problems they have been having with this version, particularly since they have been around for some time, it's not like Version 1.

arniebear: I understand why you want to drive them crazy, but you see they don't care, they have your money already, you are simply a number and hang up away. I wouldn't waste too much more time on them which again is ashame.

rbrock: No, you aren't going crazy, because WE all will leave soon if they don't get their *&%@ together and they will go crazy

THE END!!!
