everything was fine until i recieved a file on msn which was software for anti virus/spyware etc
Now my wireless network hardly ever works, and also the p2p i use for downloading music seems to download random music,e.g il turn my pc on and its halfway thru downloading 6 or 7 songs that i havent searched for.My msn seems to be playing up also, everytime i sign in im always offline to other contacts, even though my status is set to online.
It may all be a coincidence but im not taking any risks as this is a new pc and was rather expensive.
Anyone got any idea what may be going on?

What file did you receive? What was it called. This sounds more like a virus than an anti-virus. I recommend you get AVG Free. Install and run a full system scan with all your stuff(MSN, p2p, any background programs) turned off.
Be disconnected from the internet while you do the scan to prevent stuff being missed or added after the scan has scanned the folder.
It should find and delete it for you.
Here:

After you scan leave it installed to protect you. It does a better job than McAfee or Norton by far.

I totally agree. AVG has found stuff that Norton just breezed past. Do you still need to re-download AVG every so often because it 'expires'???

Nah. They release updates that download automatically. So, just let it have its way with your system. Doesn't take up nearly as many resources as McAfee and has a very easy to understand interface.

I remember a while back, I installed AVG Free edition. After 90 days ro so, it told me that the Reg Key that I used was expired and I had to re-download, re-register and re-install. Anyone else ever get this? This was probably 3 or so years ago and my recollection is a bit hazy. Oh well.

Are you sure you didn't accidentaly install the trial version of AVG Pro? I did that on accident once and I was like, "What the hell man? That's not right..."
I like AVG alot and have always used it. Had Mcfee for a while but a virus scan took 12 hours and it sucked up system resources.
When it scanned it deleted GameSpy and half of the files out of my games. When I tried to uninstall it wouldn't fully uninstall. The little icon was still in my tray. I ended up doing a reformat and starting fresh. It sucks bad and I'll never use it again >:(
