I just bought a DivX dvd player. I dragged and dropped AVI files in Nero onto a dvd, burnt at 2 speed.
I put 8 comedy central specials on there, and 8 episodes of the mighty boosh. The comedy central specials play perfect, but the mighty boosh, there's only sound, no picture, the screen just goes black.
Why would this happen? What do I need to check in the DivX files before I burn them, to make sure they'll work?
If they are DivX then about the only things that would prevent the video from working are GMC (actually supported by a majority of players) or the resolution being greater than 720x576.
Chances are that the files aren't compressed with DivX though but rather XviD. Still in both cases if they are compressed with a HT profile, then they should work. You can use GSpot, MPEG4Modifier or similar to check qpel, GMC, resolution, etc.
Resolution should be ok. Don't need to worry about GMC, qpel, etc. since DivX 3 didn't even use b frames. Could be that the player doesn't like DivX 3. If it is DivX certified, then it should be ok. Fact is though that DivX 3 wasn't MPEG-4 compliant. There was a modified version of ffmpeg though you could try. Converts DivX 3/MS MPEG-4 V3 to ISO MPEG-4 without re-encoding.
DivX 3 encodes aren't very common now, but before XviD matured, that is what was used.
