I tried today for the first time to copy material on to a -R DL DVD. It read the source DVD without a problem but then when it ateempted to burn it stopped with this warning detail: Write DVD 14 W2. "Source data too large. this writer is not capable of writing the source data as requested." It then tells you to go back to start and choose either Clone DVD or Copy DVD. I tried both and still got the same result. I am using version 2.9.0.1 of the software. I have a Sony DRU-800A Ver.KY06.

What media are you using? Sony says it only supports Verbatim inthe -R DLs at 4X burn speed. Your firmware is up to date, so no out there.

I just bought Ritek Ridata -R DL x4 from Micro Center yesterday, but it's not even trying the disk because the warning is coming up before that.

Are you sure you have DVD9 set in your settings and not DVD5?

I think your drive's firmware does not recognize the Ritec disc when you put it in the burner .

Yeh, I tried both -R DL and custom, setting it at 100% and using 8000mb of the disk.

Have you tried any other burning program besides Clone?

No, I removed all the others because they interfered with Clone.

I tried copying a shorter DVD and it worked perfectly. The movie was only an hour long so it seems that the program does not think there is enough room on the blank to fit all the content of a longer dvd!

Well try copying a slightly smaller DVD9, also note +R DL media is prefered for video while -R DL is best used for data backup.

Many players like that will play +R's that have been booktyped (bitset)to DVD-ROM. Your Sony, which is a Lite-on I beleive, should have this option. My old Sampo which only played Princo -R's (go figure) works fine with +R's set to DVD-ROM.

Is that a manual change or do you have to change the firmware?

Here is some info on how to change to booktype with your drive. This is from the review done on the drive. I recommend DVDInfo since I used this one on an OEM Plextor 740, which was really a BenQ drive. But you have your choice of programs listed along with ImgBurn.

The drive is a OEM Lite-on 1693. Here is a link for DVDInfo, you can use the free version with the adverts, except it will expire from time to time and you have to reinstall with the new version.
