M3 is a media adapter thats available in sd/mini sd as well as compact flash. Another media adapter is supercard. Its cheaper than the M3 but it has shorter battery life and play GBA roms poorly. There is also G6 lite. That has 512MB of built in flash memory. You will need one of those. The second thing you need is a pass device. These are devices that go in the DS slot and are required to play DS roms (you can use passme firmware, but you will still need a device to initialy flash the firmware). There is Ninja, Passcard 3, and Passkey 2. If Im not mistaken, the Passcard 3 is the best one to get. If you get a media adapter, you will ofcourse need a memory card and card reader. That should be all the equipment you need. You can get it from divineo.com

X2 3800, A8n deluxe motherboard, 7800GT, Xion 2 case
2GB Patriot DDR 400, Audigy 2 ZS gamer, 400GB SATA RAID 0
games Im looking forward to: bioshock, SSBB, enemy territory quake wars, halo 3
currently playing: command and conquer 3, supreme commander, counter strike, shivering isles

I would say don't even mess with the Passkey2.

Other pass devices: SuperKey, Max Media Launcher, EZPass3

The passkey would let you load files from the GBA slot using all the fetaures of the DS, not just GBA.

The passkey is bulky and needs an original game work and has since been replaced by the Passcard3 (and other similar products)

To get the best homebrew experience with your DS you idealy need these things:

- Passcard3
- M3 (SD, miniSD or CF)
- Media card (SD, miniSD or CF, depending what M3 you get)
- Card reader (SD, miniSD, CF or multi, depending what card you get)

Would that be one of these, and if so, do you still have it?

or

If you do happen to have one of these you might be able to save alot of money.

lol, not to worry, i have a PSP too.

Your best option is still to get an M3 then.

However if it is just homebrew your looking into using and not running commercial games you can get back that GBAMP you had and a Passcard3. And then install this on the GBAMP to let it run DS homebrew.

The GBAMP can run commercial DS games using a cracked version of aprogram called Maximum Overload, however this program is illegal so I cannot link to it. *cough*Google*cough*
Though running DS games on the GBAMP isn't as good as most other flash carts it's a good extra if your main goal is to run homebrew.

thanks mr hanky--

Homebrew is anything that has been made by private devleopers, and is such completely legal, it ranges from things such as applications (DSorganise, Beup) to free downloadable games (No place to hide, MegaETK) and emultors for older systems (NES, SNES)

Commercial DS ROMs are the games made by proper devlopment companies and sold on the carts in shops (so these are basically the equivelent of PSP isos)

So from the sounds of things your better off buying the combo i mentioned a while ago:
Quote:

- Passcard3
- M3 (SD, miniSD or CF)
- Media card (SD, miniSD or CF, depending what M3 you get)
- Card reader (SD, miniSD, CF or multi, depending what card you get)

You can play most old games using these emulators:
SNES - SnezziDS (SNES playing is still quite rubbish on the DS, but's it's improving, i recommend you stick to using your PSP for SNES enulation)
NES - NESDS (plays NES gaes perfectly, i havn't used it for a while though)
ZX Sepctrum - DSpec or SpeccyDS i havn't used either so can't comment on performance
Wonderswan - DualSwan
Scuum - ScummVM

As for getting commercial games to work, you just need to download the game and use special software to copy it to your card for it to work.

Price will depend what size and type of memory you decide to get, the M3 dosn't seem tobe any cheaper to buy on eBay, but memory is (just be carefull not to buy memory from china or hong kong etc. as it is usually fake)

You do not need maximum overload to use ROMs on the M3, the M3 comes with much better software.

I personally buy most of my DS stuff from Divineo, but people say that Divineo is more expensive than other places, so you might want to try some other sites.

The Max Media Launcher does exactly the same thing as the Passcard3, however I hve heard numerous times that the Max Media Launcher cannot use sleep mode.

I had good luck buying from http://www.realhotstuff.com/

Much cheaper shipping rates than a lot of the other sites.

From what it sounds like, you insert the media card (whichever type) into the card reader, plug that into a USB port of a PC and put your emulators, ROMS, etc. on there, then take out the media card, insert that into the M3 adaptor, insert the Passcard3 into the DS slot, insert the M3 adaptor into the GBA slot, and power on?

^ yup you got it down.. you can also do this with numerous other Flashcarts out there. An example would be a Supercard w/ Superkey, instead of M3 with Passcard3
