i have a version 2.1 psp. shall i upgrade it to version 2.5 or 2.6 and than downgrade it?

because i downloaded this software which only supports 2.5/2.6 and it looks really easy to use, if so how do i upgrade it to 2.5/2.6? i mean psp update via wifi will update to 2.8 - and there's not a full hack for that yet.
