is there a manual that shows how to burn a multisession dvd.
i am using Nero 7 ultra addition

Hi.
There's not too much involved.
Select "Start Multisession Disk" the first time you desire to start a multisession disk.
To add to an already started multisession disk, select "Continue Multisession Disk"
There's some additional detail about multisessions in the Nero guide beginning on page 20 of the Nero guide:

I'll just point out the biggest problem/pitfall with using multisession disks. It is easy to make a mistake and lose what you've already put on the disk. If you fail to indicate a continuation of a multisession when adding data to an exisiting ms disk, you'll lose the ability to read the earlier ms data.
Another approach is to use packeting writing software like Nero's InCD to add data to RW disks.

Many people have reported problems related to multisession burning. I would suggest using rewritable discs instead.

Probably should start a new thread but since my subject is multisession, I will continue it here. I use a multisession DVD to save all of my pictures prior to doing any modifications to them. In other words I download the pictures, touch them up with PS Elements and then do a permanent save. I also save a copy before touch up on a multisession disk.
My question is, is it possible to close the disk near the end of the disk capacity so that the disk could be read later by a different burner or even on a different CD?

Yes when it's "closed" or finalized it ahould be readable by other drives, but I've never had much luck or put much trust in it. I would probably copy everything from the ms CD or DVD back to the HDD and then burn a new permanent Disk at Once disk. I would keep permanent copies of pictures I wanted to keep on the HDD and use DVDs as archival backup storage. I would never use a DVD as primary storage media. I use a HDD for primary storage, another HDD as archival backup, and DVDs as secondary backup storage.
All things considered, using RW DVD media and packet writing software is probably safer in many respects than using multisession recording. At least from my limited experience it seems to be the case.

I have burned multisession disks for years with Nero 6 without any problem. I use them to backup my data files, updating sessions automatically. I usually burn 5-6 sessions on a single CD-R.
A multisession disk not finalized can be read in any drive without any problem. Windows can only read the last session, but IsoBuster (freeware) can read any session and extract any file, if the need arises.
