No, you don't need to mod your ps2 to allow it to play ps1 backup games. You need an original Gameshark or Codebreaker disc to boot them. You swap it like Swap Magic.

You still need a Slide card, Fliptop or tissue Mod or some way for the PS2 to think that the lid is shut when you swap..
