Please help!!! Recently I had my memory upgraded and my PC was rebuilt by an IT specialist. I also added a mobile phone internet modem connected to a USB port. The mobile company is called Cell C. Since then I cannot burn any DVD's but I can burn CD's. It creates the image but during burning it fails anywhere between 2% and 95% burning. My PC then freezes up and aborting burning does not allow me to remove the disc. Rebooting also does not allow me to remove the disc, I have to physically remove power from the writer and power back up to remove it. One disc failed at 100%. I got no error reports. If I stick this disc into my DVD player it goes into a spin and I have to remove/restore power to eject the disc. My IT guy has spent 5 hours trying to solve the problem as is pulling all his hair out. Her is my error log from my last attempt. I am up to 25 coasters already.

Good media but let's take it down to 8x for now.

See how that goes and let us know.

Hi Binkie

Thanks for your reply. I will download the firmware update tonite.

I have tried 5 different versions of Nero to no avail. My IT guy gave up after 5 hours of trying. I spoke to another IT guy who immediately suggested that because I am using USB ports, I have conflict between devices. He said that if the addresses of the devices are too close together then it can cause conflict.

To prove this I tried burning with DVDdecryptor ? it froze. I then disconnected my Internet modem and tried burning again. Both Nero and DVDdecryptor worked like a charm. I then done the test in reverse by connecting my Internet modem and disconnecting my writer. My Internet speed was 910kb/s. I then connected my writer again and the Internet speed dropped to 460kb/s. This is proof of the conflict. I am waiting for more detail on this and how to fix it. I will then share this with you.

A thought. A lot of people complain that their Nero was working but then just stopped or burnt coasters. Do they not perhaps have the same problem using USB ports? One solution for me is to disconnect my modem each time I want to burn and disconnect my writer to keep Internet speed. This is a no-no with all the rebooting and so on. I am waiting for the best solution.

Any solutions / suggestions on this USB port address conflict.

Without the modem, Nero burns happily ay 16x

Although I'm not familiar with "mobile phone internet modem connected to a USB port" I do know in the DSL world USB modems can be most troublesome and are not recommended. As with DSL modems are NIC connected modems available? Or maybe an additional USB add-on card might work.

Hi luray
Nero also some conflicts w/ usb connected drives. Sometimes a later version helps but not always. But if decrypter didn't burn either than it's a conflict sounding like the one the 2nd tech guy said.
I'd try MysticE suggestions. If you have or can connect your internet thru the nic card I'd start there.
I wouldn't want to have to reboot all the time either!

For the Nero not working & coasters bit - sometimes it's a conflict w/ Nero and the usb drive or other devices connected (good point btw) & alot of coasters can be caused by poor media/firmware not up to date/high burn speed or a combo of all.
Keep us posted!

I moved the writer on board using IDE. Problem solved. The LG also has a Firewire port. This is also better than USB. Funny, reading the user manual carefully the is a short sentence "cannot gaurentee operation using USB"

@luray
Good to hear you got it sorted out.
I thought USB was better than firewire but could be wrong - guess all drives have their preferences.
