Are there other processes besides burning for backups. Trying to figure what's beyond burning dvds. Pretty much got what I want with the Epson 340 and my PC using Verbatims. But want to get away from burning and have no idea. Thanks

Yes, the ones they sell out of consumer catalogs are just arrays of burners.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

Hi there,

From what I have heard and read in the past, those duplicators can only copy unprotected stuff.

If your gonna copy 12 copies of Finding Nemo for your friends <Grin> you will need to generate 1 master, with no protections on it before you duplicate.

Copy to a DL with AnyDVD in the background for example.
They use this unprotected Master to duplicate...

Any dvd is what I,m using. It is the bomb. It's at 1X ,Verbatims. My problem is wanting highest quality. Visually also. Plus I'm storing ISO files for backups, because they are dvd5s. I've got a few DVD9 files for backups. I know thats the way to go. I'm using Verbatims exclusive. I figure backing up ISO files is better then backing up off of clean DVD9s. Maybe that,s my mistake. Anyway, I just started printing on the Epson. Matt finish.I finally installed DVD rebuilder, and CCE basic, I bought last year. Its slow. And I'm about to get another 300-400 external HD. So I'm thinking this is stupid, All this for burned DVDs, that look like burned DVDs.It might be better to buy the movies. And it looks like all this all might end in a few years anyway. There's really not much left but those Yashio disks to try. So whats next? Thanks.

burning is all there is to the consumer, really; beyond that, you'd have to acquire the machinery and materials to stamp your own discs. at that point, you're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars and still being illegal unless you purchase some kind of rights.

the point of a backup is to be a backup. you shouldn't really worry about passing them off for the originals. if you are, then odds are you're up to something more illegal than the rules of this site stipulate allowing the members to assist in.

I don't think I said I was passing anything off. I did say I was making my backups from the ISO file (from the original),using Any DVD, instead of backing up from a compressed backed up DVD5 disk. Because I think the quality is better. Also I said I dont like how they look burned. And was looking for ideas . But that was it. Thanks

AnyDVD only breaks the encryptions and will have nothing to do with overall video quality. You said you have dvd-rb/cce so you already have one of the best compression tools in your arsenol. The program you use to compress is what will make a difference in video quality. Note: even dvd-rb/cce can only work with what it's got so if the disc or folder was already compressed with a sub par program, don't expect dvd-rb/cce to improve it. Always work from the original and edit the folder as small as possible. The less the amount of compression the better and that applies to all compression apps.

Yeah, and apply most of the compression to the extra features and such. Those are already done at lower quality and will not suffer as much from lower compression. I rarely keep the extras on my backups, but if you do, that is the way to go.

Ok , I,m keeping the extras with no compression. What i did today was run clone and AnyDVD in DVD9 mode so I have a uncompressed movie to pass to DVD rebuilder. Rebuilder made it into DVD5.Is there any difference in quality using different programs making an uncompressed file for DVD to start with. Or does it not matter because its uncompressed. And one step further. I run an uncompressed movie to DVD9 on Clone dvd and AnyDVD to a double layer DVD using its ISO . I do the same thing again using the Clone/Anydvd Video/ Audio TS file I create for DVD rebuilder, instead of the ISO, and make an uncompressed movie there. And burn it using Nero to a DVDDL.. Which movie is better quality. Thanks

As long as both are uncompressed, there is no difference.

There may be advantages in using ISO over a DVD Folder when you are burning to DVD-DL, but I do not have any experience with DL burning.

However, visually, it will yield the same results.
