Since this is strictly opinions, I suppose I could jump in. In my opinion DVDFab, and or Ripit4me are the best going at this time. As has already been said, I believe that all the processing from Ripit4Me leaves a much cleaner Rip. I have to admit I was totally shocked when I tried Ripit, so far I haven't had one that it wouldn't run. Really breathed new life into one of the ol favorites DVD Decrypter.

anydvd update

Dear valued customer,

we would like to inform you, that a new version of AnyDVD
has been released. Here the list of fixes and improvements:

6.1.3.2 2007 03 15
- New (DVD): Added support new versions for the "Protect DVD-Video" copy
protection to the option to remove "Protection based on unreadable Sectors"
Examples: "Wer früher stirbt..." and "Perfume", both R2, German
- Note: With the help of AnyDVD, discs protected with "Protect DVD-Video"

THIS IS FUNNY LOL
can now be played on Windows MCE 2005, with Windows Media player or
Zoom Player. WITHOUT AnyDVD RUNNING, THESE DISCS CANNOT BE PLAYED!
Shame on the makers of this really bad protection.
They don't do their customers a favour, if they cannot watch the
original disc!
We really hope that they get these discs slapped in their faces by
their (ex)customers.

- Fix (HD DVD): Discs with volume labels ending with a blank character
could not be decrypted
Example: "Nine Inch Nails Live: Beside You In Time", US
- Fix (HD DVD): Discs without iHD menus did not work
Example: "Heart - Alive in Seattle" (US & Japan)
- Fix (Blu-ray): Files with non consecutive sections were not decrypted
correctly. Example: Many Blu-ray discs like "Prestige" (US)
- Some minor fixes and improvements
- Updated languages

These discs that cannot be played need to be returned for a refund. They are selling you a disc that is non compliant to the DVD standards.

anyone ever have results where the director's commentary is the part of the dvd backed up, even though the proper checks were placed within the software? If so, what is the fix?

Thanks,

Mark

Make sure you have time, and lots of quiet time when you watch the Good Shepherd. Man that movie is long and boring, but a good boring if you pay attention you might learn something about the CIA ;-) Don't expect any action or anything like that because it isn't there at all.

Cheers

heres a good download of ripit4me here
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/RipIt4Me/1159478103/1

Released: March 22, 2007
Publisher: RipIt4Me
Homepage: RipIt4Me
Downloads: 37,522
License: Freeware
OS Support: Windows 2000/2003/XP

RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0
Publisher's Description:

RipIt4Me is a freeware utility that helps you backup your copy protected DVDs. Recently released DVDs are now very often equipped with stronger copy protections - such as ARccOS and RipGuard DVD. Other programs cannot handle these types of discs.

With the help of RipIt4Me, ripping these DVDs will be a very easy task. The program is fully automated and the wizard will guide you through all the necessary steps involved. If you prefer, there is also a true "1-Click" mode that will perform all the involved steps automatically for you.

Well My 02cents ! on the Paid for versus Freeware Proggies is like this ! When I first started DVD'ing DVD Shrink & DVD Decypter ! both Freeware would do most any movie out! Then Some got a little Tougher To Do with newer Copy protections & also Two great freewares Shrink & decrypter stopped their upgrading !Though they still work & are valuable Programs to have on hand ! So I added DVD-fab Decrypter (Freeware ) & it has helped out now & then ! but More and more Movies were getting harder too do ! So I tried Then bought AnyDVD ( Paid for Proggie ) & it has worked exceptionally until Fairly recently !So I was told to get Ripit4me (* Freeware )& I have done that ! But was still having a few Problems here & There ! So Calmer and wiser Minds ( Much Wiser Minds Then mine !!!) here at Afterdawn.com Told me that the Program to have along with all the others was Clone DVD2( Slysoft - Pay for Program) and I finally Decided That I would heed The call of the Wise !!!!!!!!!!!!! So I bought Clone DVD2 ! & am getting used to using it ! With AnyDVD & Clone DVD2 I now fear No Sony !!!!!!!!!!!LOL! So I would say it's well worth the price !!!!! Long story short I think both freeware & Paid for Proggies have there place ! But other than DVD fab Decrypter The only ones that are still Upgrading are The Paid for it Programs- AnyDVD & Clone ! So in the end you pays your money & you don't have to take your chances !!!! To all My Helpful Compadre's & compadrette's Who've helped me out along the way My continual & eternal thanx your the best each and everyone of you !!!! later friends !!!!

FeetZ Up ! Head Down !

The good shepherd=not worthy of a DL disc. the 63%compression is adequate for HD. The photography is dark and doesn't lend itself to HD quality. Just about what bbmayo said about this LOOOOng movie. Bring a pen and a notebook, not quite as bad as Syriana tho! LMAO

Defunct, not forgotten.
***it4m*(not allowed to say the name anywhere anymore :P) wizard mode was the easiest and best way for preparing files for DVD-RB, IMHO.
I might be late in this thread but free + paid was the best way to go for me!

Here is all the freeware a person will need for a while and it blows most of the retail out of the water. When Saw 3 was released in Region 1, it was working better than AnyDVD + CloneDVD 2.
