I bought a western digital 320GHz hard drive in june 2006 from dabs
and all was well until today ,when turning on ,instead of the worr it clicked 6 times .
It now cannot be turned off by pressing button on front and its icon does not appear on desktop .if i unplug it and plug it in again it does the same.
i stupidly put all my photos ,work, music (paid for) downloads on it and didn't back up most of the recent ones

IS IT KERPUT ?
CAN I RECOVER THE DATA ?
WILL IT INVALIDATE MY WARRANTEE IF RECOVERY INVOLVES OPENING ?
Please Help!!

We put our most personal possessions in the trust of these fragile devices

First, I think you mean a 350 GB HD. Not being an ass, just had to point it out. ;)

More than likely you data is still ok, unless it prompts to format I would think it's still there. Did it come with a drivers disc or a software disc? If so, try reinstalling the drivers or software.

And yes, opening the case will void the warrentee.

Try:

Using a different port on the motherboard.

Plugging it in to a different computer. Get the data and then reformat and start from scratch!

And whatever you do do not pay thoose scum bags £20 to do it for you!!
