Quote: Mathieulh stopped by our forums to tell us that a new version of psardumper (modded by Dark_Alex to dump 2.80 files) is available. Dark_Alex modded psardumper for 2.80 which was originally created/coded by psppet. This psardumper will dump reboot.bin and other necessary 2.80 files for devhook emulation!
This is quite some exciting news as it has been quite some time since 2.80 has been released and many have been anxiously awaiting this day. The only thing that remains for us to wait on is an update to devhook that will allow us to emulate 2.80! So, now that we have the files extracted/dumped, it is only a matter of time before we are emulating this precious firmware on our 1.50 firmware with devhook!
To install, extract the data.psar (we suggest using PBP Unpacker) and place it in the root of your memory stick (data.psar). After this is done, make sure you have the decrypter/dumper file in the correct folder (PSP/Game) and execute it on your PSP. The program will then dump/decrypt the necessary files onto your memory stick. This program is legal, however the files dumped using it are protected under copyright laws - so do not distribute them!
UPDATE: As you all might have probably heard, 2.81 is out today. Bad news? Nah. Because we've just found out that the 2.80 decrypter works on 2.81. What good does that do for us? Well it could only mean that Sony's newest baby may soon be emulated via DevHook!
cool !!!! Quote: You can now lay all your speculations to rest. Sony has just released firmware 2.81. The update was made on September 7, 2006 (as some pointed out, it's ironically just right after the 2.80 Decrypter was made available) and YourPSP says the system software update included a patch that would address vulnerability in the system software. Naturally, it includes all features contained in previous software versions.
Sony Japan's website lists down the Memory Stick related problems that they've fixed. Translation from the Sony Japan's website here are those updates.
With "ATRAC" files which have been protected in SonicStage and then saved to Memory Stick PRO Duo, the protection management data becomes corrupted, and become unable to be played back
Memory Stick PRO Duo media which have been formatted from either the PSP or a Memory Stick formatter are recognized as unformatted media when connecting the PSP to a PC with the USB cable
A bore so far? The clincher is this and we quote: "PSP systems with system software version 2.80 or earlier do not correctly recognise high-capacity Memory Stick Duo with more than 4GB of free (recordable) memory space." However, is this lure of bigger space enough to get people to upgrade?
If you ask us, all that Sony has done in the 2.81 release is that it has given us a choice. If you really, really and we mean really, need more than 4GB then by all means upgrade. YourPSP and Sony Japan is offering the download. Love your homebrew? Then don't.
Is it a good move by Sony? Well apparently not, cause we've just found out that the 2.80 decrypter works on 2.81. What good does that do for us? Well it could only mean that Sony's newest baby may soon be emulated via DevHook!
Thanks to everyone who took the extra time of tipping us about this update.

there hasnt really been news of a 2.8 downgrader. the recently found exploit works on 2.8 but the only problem is it cant access kernel mode, and we need kernel mode to downgrade.

Quote: More exciting news! Dark_Alex and his team has made another update. Read on: Each PSP has a special key generated area. This area then is checked by IPL 2.00+ and the firmware will just not boot if it does not match. Dark_Alex originally thought that the key area is being generated from idstorage.
He recently found out though that the idstorage has nothing to do with it, totally. Instead, it uses the encryption/decryption hardware to scramble the header of the module. But each PSP has a unique kirk engine though, and that is exactly why the sha-1 generated signature also is.
Being the programmer extra-ordinaire known all over, Dark_Alex updates immediately the newly released 2.80 Decrypter. Now, it comes with a signature check generation mod that allow users to create their own flash0. For the installation procedures, you could take a look at our previous coverage of this development.
That's another goal scored for the dev-scene! With an update like this and just DevHook missing, we are closer than ever to cracking that much coveted baby from Sony.
