Price limit? A 7600GT would play those games extremely well and is around us$150.

When evolution selects its agents, it does so at a cost, makes demands in exchange for singularity, and you may be asked to do something against your very nature. This force, evolution, is not sentimental. Like the Earth itself, it knows only the hard facts of life's struggle with death. All you can do is hope and trust that when you have served its needs faithfully, there may still remain some glimmer of the life you once knew.

Why do you need SLI (SLI by nature is two cards by the way)? 7600GT will play those games OK, if you want high performance in BF2, COD2 and B&W2 you'll be looking at an X1900XT though:

sammorris, that's straight up retarded. None of those games are new and a 7600GT would eat them alive. Even tho quake 4 is the most recent, it's still optimized for nVidia cards and could be played fluidly on 1 7600GT.

*laugh* god, why don't you suggest the 7950GX2 instead?

Hey, blahwho! If you want any performance while playing Minesweeper, you need four 7900GTX or crossfired 1900XTXs!

I'm talking Black & White 2 and Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 over the others here because I've played them. One would assume you haven't, because at 1280x1024, you cannot have the detail all the way up on a 7600GT.

One would assume you're wrong. Because I own B&W2 and RC3 and they run fine on my 9600xt side setup and FLUIDLY on my 6600gt rig. If someone wants to run games and programs the best they can, they need to optimize their system and not have Bonzai Buddy running in the background. Seriously, don't come here saying people need the latest shit to get good framerates on year old games.

Thread over.

Of course I could suggest future-proofing couldn't I? Games development is such that you can run today's stuff fine, but come a year's time, you'll really be turning things down to get the game to run smoothly.

I MEANT SLI CABABLE so in the future I can get another one to double performence. And I was looking around for 7600s and cannot find any GTs at around that price. Mostly $200+ and around 150 for 7300 GTs. Found a 7600gs at around that price.... don't understand the major difference between the two.

Are you canadian or american? If the latter:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814143049
a 7600GS is a cut-down version of the 7600GT, and nowhere near as powerful.

Aside from the memory, I can't pinpoint exactly what but if you go on firingsquad.com, you'd get the facts and figures for the card you want to buy.

As far as future proffing goes, you're making a smart choice on selecting the 7600GT (well 2 of them for SLI). One is pretty powerful but 2 is ideal. You should be satisfied as long as the rest of your specs are up to mark.

...Or you could just do like me and forget about PC gaming and buy a PS3+X360 :p

Or not since the PS3 is delayed.... LOL don't roget there are a fair few games that come out for PC and not on any of the consoles, as long as they don't have starforce copy protection, you're alright! The 7600GT is a pretty nice card, there are far better ones out there, but it's ultimately up to you. It sounds like you have an SLi board, so getting something you can add a second card later for makes sense.

Newegg are a very cheap website, the cheapest I usually see, because they don't have shops, just a warehouse, so they don't need to employ sales staff, separate delivery people, and all the other things that shops like best buy have to pay for. Plus shops usually charge more of a profit margin because of the "convienience of buying from a store"

Ok I now I need some advice on an atlon 64 (will I need dual core?)
Also 1 gig of ram should do fine right?

Too bad newegg doesn't ship overseas [damn!] anyway, dual core..lemme see.. i'd say yes because it would really be a fine complement to such a powerful video chipset. Compatibility issues i'm not sure sure of, you'd have to wait for sam's next post.

The last thing you want is a bottle neck on the calculation aspect.

The memory... 1 gig is OK seeing that more recent games require 512MB as a recommended system requirement. It's always good to have double.

1GB of RAM suits for pretty much most games out there. More is always better lol, but 1GB should do you fine. However, if you're going to be multi-tasking (like running a game and doing something else at once) as is common with Dual core owners, you might want to look into 2GB.

but I recently stumbled upon this thing..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814125025

One's fanless, one isn't. One has a $30 rebate, the other hasn't. The BFG is also very mildly faster, so do that. "Price doesn't matter?" I hope I interpreted that right, else you want to be looking above a 7600GT!
