Hi all,

I'm a total noob at the psp but I managed somehow to downgrade my 2.01 to a 1.5 today and I thought that was the hard part over.

So now I'm thinking, I want to use iso's on my psp so I downloaded a devhook full installer. So I hooked the pc up to the psp and ran the application and the devhook installer said where is the root of the psp, so I entered the drive only of the psp which is (I:) so the application extracted all the files to the psp.

Now heres where I'm stuck.

Does this mean devhook is installed and ready to go or do I have to do something else to run it?

How do I use iso's now ?

And now that I have a 1.5 version can I use the web and if so how?

Believe me, I have read through so many posts and I'm reading if you hold down home and start you can switch modes and so on but it doesn't seem to be happening.

I have a headache tryin to do this lol so any help would be appreiciated.

Thanks
Sandisk

Sorry just another thing aswell, today for the first time I was gonna use the internet with the psp.

So after I dowgraded to the 1.5 I went to network settings and scanned so it found my provider and said 100% signal so I went to the next stage and it asked me for wep key, so I typed it in and it said it was invalid.
So I rang my provider and they said everything should be ok and to ring sony so I rang sony and they asked what firmware was I using and I said 1.5, upgrade the told me.

I left it at that so at the minute I'm waiting for a return call from my provider to try and get this sorted.

Should the psp still recignoise the wep even though I'm using a 1.5?

thanks again

Thanks 4 the swift reply. I'll have alook at the guide now. I did get into the devhook menue and into the 2.71 settings but I tried the wep key in the 2.71 setting and it still won't let me connect. It keeps on saying invaild key, even thoughI did use this wep key before when I was using a belkin wireless adapter so it should be ok.

Any thoughts on that ?

Thanks

I read the tutorial and and taken it in but I'm still unclear and a few things.

If I have an iso, I place it in the iso folder in the memory stick root, unplug the usb, open up devhook on the psp and hit start.

It should play then?

Also, could I put 2 iso's in the iso folder and play 2 games with devhook instead of putting a different iso in every time I want to play a different game?

Thanks

Same thing happens to me and tells me my WEP key is invalid, just won't work but oh well =P
Make sure you have selected the right modem and not your neighbours.

Firmware - 1.0 > 1.5 > 2.0 > 2.5 > 2.6 > 1.5 > 2.6 > 1.5
I make my own signatures, isn't that an amazing and boring fact for me to put here? Don't PM me with an answer...well you could, give me something to talk about or you would probably be completely rude about the matter....just one more dot? ok ..... .

as for devhook loading iso, thats right, in your memory cards root, youll find the iso folder, once your iso (OR ISO's) is in there, go to devhook, and choose umd mount, your iso back-ups should then show in a small list. just select the iso, select your 2.71 firmware, choose start, go to umd, enjoy :)

Ok lads, I'm learnin.

With regards to the wep key, my provider which is magnet entertainment rang back and said its definitely not them that blocking me but these guys don't allow you access to the router they supply you with when your gettin your broadband. So I said ok, well just take the wep encryption off while I'm on the phone and see if I connect.

He takes the encryption off and I get a connection.
I said, I thought you don't block ports or traffic?

He said he'd call me back with an answer, still no sign of that call.

With devhook, great so you can put say three iso's in the iso folder and select from a list in devhook. Thats good to hear.

Can I just ask you aswell, I know file sharing on here is a touchy subject but I couldn't resist just for today lol to see if this actually works(I'm waiting from last october for today lol) but I downloaded a small .rar file called wipeout pressure psp. When I opened the .rar file, there was three folders called "dh","iso","psp".

But there is no iso file in the iso folder just a .cso file.

Any thoughts on that?

What size would an average game be as I have a 1gb memory stick.

Thanks very much

Bad news on my part lads, I think my psp is fuc*ed.

I ran a iso, I selected it, then the firmware and then start and it wouldn't run, it just restarted to the other version.

So I ran it again and now the psp is jammed on the psp devhook screen.

It was like it was loading but the screen just froze.

It says top menue and start underneath then below that is umd-mode and so on.

Even now when I turn off the psp and back on, it just shows that screen. I tried even taking out the memory card but still the same.

It's fuck*d :-(

Yah its working again.

I just read your post now as I'm at the pc but I just turned in on a few minutes ago and it loaded up.

I really can't believe it, I thought it was knackered!!

I think I know what I was doing wrong if you can correct me if I'm wrong.

I put the iso in the iso folder, disconnected the psp from the pc,went to game on the psp, memory stick, selected the umd, then firmware 2.71 and then just hit start.

I thought the game would load up straight away but the psp version 2.71 just loaded up instead.

I kept trying and then it frooze.

So now after doing all that when I finally hit start and the 2.71 version loaded up I now went to the "umd" of the game section of the psp and thats it, it loads up now straight away.

Thats a total noob for you.

In one day I've upgraded, downgraded, learned how to access the wireless network, learned something about psp iso's and folders, nearly had a heart attack, was pissed off and now finally happy again lol

What a day for psp noob lol.

Thanks to all you lads for the help, I'd still be just lookin at the psp if not for your help.

Don't worry tomorrow I'll be tryin to figure out how to compress iso's and then rebuild them if anyone knows of any EASY tools for this process.

Thanks again

Sandisk

Just had a quick browse through your guides Vampiro93, and they look pretty good.

I'm sure I'll still have a few questions though tomorrow.

If you had a big enough iso, all in all would it take long to compress and rebuild?

Thanks

Hi Guys, another question,

I extracted a .rar file that was 700mb and when it was extracted it left me with a cso file that was 800mb.

Can I play this cso file right away the same way as the iso's?

Or does this have to be rebuilt in some way?
There are no more files with this, just the 800mb cso file.

Thanks

you play cso files the same way you play iso files. drop it in the ISO folder. cso is a compressed version of an iso file.

I see, thanks for that info.

It was just yesterday, I opened a .rar file and the was three folders in it, an "iso", "dh", and "psp" and in the iso folder there was a cso file which I gathered from sifting through post that you could play like an iso but when I saw the three folders with files in each of them I just left it alone lol.

Thanks

Oh yeah, I was helped out big time.

But that's what AfterDawn is about isn't it.

I remember one chaps avatar and it said "learn and teach, teach and learn", somethin like that anyway.

Believe it or not, I've learned everything I know about a pc from here.

I was a pc noob when I started and now I'm fairly good( I think lol).
Rotary, Lethal_B and drd are the guys that set me out.

So thank you guys for the psp help.

Oh yeah, I found a little prog today called psp iso compressor by danny kay.

So I just selected my iso which was say 700mb, selected it to ciso, it did it's thing and gave me a cso as a 200mb file.

Excellent, but will these compressed files work without crashing?

Thanks
